Back-up software?????

I've got an external hard drive for the laptop, 'cos it's starting to get a bit full, so I need to transfer a load of stuff.
Does anyone know of a free programe anywhere that enables auto back-up, or at least just to transfer the latest stuff without having to do the whole file everytime?

You have NTbackup on windows that you can schedule. If you haven't you can find it here:

If you have an external hard drive plugged in you can use this as the backup folder.

You can use the windows scheduler to get it to run whenever you choose. You can find this in Control Panel, Sheduled Tasks.

The computer guys that just spent a day migrating 2 old computers to my new one gave me this one to use to an external HD.
Seems to be working pretty well.

EZBack-it-up is a personal file backup utility. It is designed to be very easy to learn and use. It is not an archival tool that compresses all your files and folders into one file, but instead, it copies your data to a destination of your choice where you can readily access your backed up files any time you need. All directory structure is preserved and you can optionally choose to delete files from the target that are not in the source. EZBack-it-up includes a built-in scheduler, command-line switches, logging functionality, and more.

          Are you looking for backup software or are you looking just to transfer data...or both? What the guys have already suggested to you should work fine but it won't help you when your hard drive is full. Of course if you are just transferring the data you will still probably want to back it up. I use an offsite backup myself for my wife's pictures. Also with a laptop it gets a bit hairy if you wanted to replace your drive with a bigger one, but it can be done. Being new here I didn't want to post the name of anything that was not free and seem like it was soliciting, but they are out there on the interwebz. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I think I've got it sussed now. I just wanted to clear a load of stuff off the Laptop (mainly music ) onto the ext HD, and didn't want to spend hours re-writing files I'd transfered when there's anything new to go on it. So I just cleared it all from the Laptop, that way there's only a few new bits at a time to do.

Probably not put very well---but it makes sense to me .
