In 1985 I was 23.  I took a year off from my political science studies in college. Ronald Reagan started his second term. The doomsday clock was set at three minutes to midnight.  I had occasional nightmares about nuclear war.  Moved to Colorado. Lost what was left of my religion.  Saw Suzanne Vega on her first tour for $4.  My favorite albums were by Sting, Pete Townshend, and Wall of Voodoo. (Elvis Costello didn't release anything.) Had four crappy jobs. No love life. Bought my first multi-track recorder.  Learned to program a Dr. Rhythm. Met a pedal steel guitarist who turned me on to African music. Moved back to Arizona. Crashed my Volvo wagon on the way.

Longest year of my life.

No reason to be sorry at all.  It was a year I grew in leaps, but it was hardly carefree for me--or anyone who followed the news.  I decided to finish my degree so I could go on save the world.  And look: The world is still here.

An African style collaboration? PM me.

For me this is a tune about childhood memories of how I percieved the world around me...........

I think I was too young to see the hardship that was out there.......

But it's the tough times now that let me look back with such high zest..!

But it is as Ted says....  Thoughs Tough times make you grow!
