It was 1967, I was 19 and the Moody Blues were singing "Night in White satin" on the radio in my car.
..a song and a band that were so successful that in 1968, the great French singer Léo Ferré quoted the song and the band in a song called "c'est extra".

A cover I did with all my instruments

Ukulele Bass
12-string electric guitar Harley Benton (clone of the famous Rickenbaker)
Melodica Hohner ( for 20 euros!)
Keyboard with Soundfont for organ, female backing vocals and strings)

for the drums (the only instrument I can't make) Power Drumkit

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I do have an elektic bass and guitar, i do have an acoustic guitar. I even have a keyboard and a Roland drum set What I seem to miss is skills. So to cure my at least 40y frustration I dicovered my instrument being my voice. So I finaly had the nerve to take singing lessons and make my voice heared thanks to Songcrafters.

emploi super

obviously a great song... but I like a lot of other Moody Blues songs more...

this one got played to death... but I see why... it is really great.

amazing cover JP... I think your vocals work and you kept it real...

#3
A song about bedsheets, I read somewhere.

It's a faithful cover, and yet it's not. I particularly liked the melodica.

I was hoping you'd finish with the "Late Lament" soliloquy ("Breathe deep the gathering gloom..."), perhaps in French.

Well Ted, ... I thought of it but too late I didn't know the version with the "Late Lament".

I only discovered it by chance afterwards ...but maybe I'll add it...

This poem adds extra interest to this song which (it's true, Stephen) has been covered many times and no doubt the Moody Blues have other songs that are just as interesting, if not more so.

That would be so nice. I always tried to to this voice.
Late Lament
Breathe deep the gathering gloom,
Watch lights fade from every room.
Bedsitter people look back and lament,
Another day's useless energy spent.
Impassioned lovers wrestle as one.
Lonely man cries for love and has none.
New mother picks up and suckles her son.
Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colours from our sight.
Red is grey and yellow white,
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion.

Quote from: Ted on February 19, 2024, 09:04:21 PMI particularly liked the melodica.

This is a wonderful piece JP

I agree with Ted about the Melodica.

I also didn't mean you should not cover it.  I am glad you did... because not too many people could pull this off so well.

A very good cover JP! I've played and heard this song way too many times over the years but when I hear it after a long spell of not hearing it, I realize what a great song it is. You've done it well!
