I remember reading something that Paul McCartney said: 'Of all the other pop songs written, I wished I'd have written God Only Knows'. Mmm. Some accolade, eh?

I believe it was Pet Sounds that made Paul raise his game for Sgt Peppers. And then it was Brian's turn to try and out-do The Beatles with his Smile album. It's a shame he was in mental disarray at the time. I believe Paul also added some munching sounds on the Beach Boy's 'Vegetables' song. I think they had a big respect for each other.
