Is your heaven the light in her eyes?
Or her name running through your veins?
Is your hell the moment you realize
The losses were worth more than the gains?
Love standing patiently at your gate
But hate knocking loudly on your door
Though they say that goodness comes to those that wait
Be careful what you wish for.

You might cut the veins to free her name
Or take a swan-dive off the highest bridge
Lover's sweet fools will share the blame
Is your photograph still stuck on her fridge?
You may dance a lively measure
Favourite meals and sweet wine to pour
That captivated moment you both may treasure
Just be careful what you wish for.

Is it the zephyr that stirs your hair?
Is it guilt that sours your years?
Is it the anger that reddens your face?
Is it the music that warms your ears?

Is your heaven that endless beach?
Single malt in your favourite chair?
Is your hell a euphoria way out of reach?
Or a sour word and a baleful stare?
Love will sing the ballad so sweetly
Hate will howl rancid and sore
And though it all seems to happen so neatly
Just be careful what you wish for.

Excellent vocals and lyrics (including the harmonies and back vocals), Ray. The mellow jazz tone lead guitar is perfectly matched to the song. A great listen!

This is on repeat, and for a reason... I wanted to make sure I get to some sort of understanding here before I attempt to comment on this greatness.  The piano is stellar.  I do love piano based soft rock.  I am sure there could be various "genrefications" laid out here.  Generally I don't know what they are but I do know brilliance I hear starting at 2:10... and overall the song is amazing... just hits me so nice right in the same places that favorites like LRB, Christopher Cross, Bruce Hornsby, etc hit me... just so damn fine man.. so damn great...

hats off to you Ray... you make it sound easy... and thank you...

I wish that some of this songwriting magic will rub on me while listening to the song :)

The harmonies really hit hard on this one and there are a lot of cool small details sprinkled everywhere.

The synth solo at the was a surprise.

The lyrics are once again story driven poetry.
