I got a story song done up...it took a little while...... Sci-fi, time travel, time paradox/time loop kind of story...The inspiration for this was, of course, the movie 12 Monkeys and a PK Dick short story called "The Skull" .... I added my own twist on the time paradox....also inspired by all this Covid crap and all the folks that are still suffering...that is where the idea for all this came from...no guitar solos this time....I just couldn't find space for guitar wankery on this one...its 8 minutes long as it is without any solos
...warning:its lyric heavy, but to tell the story properly I found I needed all 8 verses, chorus and bridge...lol...enjoy

No Escape Out of Time
written/performed/recorded by Dave Berry, with some assistance from Keith Berry on bass, and piano
Dave: lyrics/vocals, electric guitar (Gretsch G5420T), GB drums and organ/synths
Keith: Bass, piano, organ solo at end
recorded on an iPad into Garageband
My prison door swung open
The guards dragged me to my feet
We're taking you to see the Council
They have  deal that's hard to beat
This crystal cage will send you back in time
Reducing the sentence for your crime

It started 40 years ago
Summer of 2025
A madman released the virus
By winter few were left alive
The survivors gathered and were forced to live underground
Until a cure could be found

Now the survivors are no longer dying
Yet we suffer from day to day
Many symptoms plague our well being
We need to cure this chronic malaise
Your mission is: travel to when it was released
Return with the virus unleashed

They instructed me on the machinery
That will transport me back in time
And a memory card of old records
Holographic images to identify
I'll track this man down and take him by suprise
Returning a sample to analyze

Chorus:
The moving hands of time
are just a pantomine
A shadow across the sun
Don't try to change the past
Or you will find out fast
Your fate you can't outrun
There is no escape out of time (x2)

I set the controls for my journey
The council room fades from view
The spiraling mist begins to settle
My arrival noted by more than a few
A crowd was gathering around the glowing crystal cage
Which man starts the viral rampage

I study the gathering crowd
They gasp in fear at my sight
He'll kill us with his alien weapons, they cry
I've got one chance, gotta get this right
I go back in the cage, activate the memory device
Holographic images before my eyes

Bridge:
Gazing at the ghostly image
Something is familiar, adjust for a clearer view
Same clothes, same face
It's like looking in the mirror, I'm hunter and hunted too
I am the man I was sent back to find
My blood is the virus, I realize

Chorus The moving hands of time....

With a glimmer of recognition
I watch them move in for the kill
Forgive them they know not what
Begins by my blood they will spill
Those who take my life will unleash a plauge on all mankind
Yet I will live again in time

The virus spread like wildfire
People had no immunity
Survivors fled the earths surface
To preserve the last of humanity
A baby is born in the year 2029
And one day the Council will send him back in time
Re-living the events line by line

Chorus The moving hands of time...

Alternate Tunings: CAUTION: your fingers have to be in different places

I love a good time-traveling yarn, and you guys put it together well in that proggy style.

Outstanding collab.

What a story, I'd pay money to see that film. Great lyrics. And what an epic song, the 8 minutes flew past. Brilliant music all the way through..yeah kind of trippy..and some the cool vocals.
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
One is a musical partnership with Keith Allen, ( we record songs as "The Devil's Toupee").
The 2nd one is for my other musical projects and collaborations. (DarrenG)
Thanks for listening.

Why didn't i get the memo that Bluesberry had been let out from the Space Ship of Blues Vagabonds?

Having Keith play the bass is a bit of a cheat. But i'll try not to hold that against you as your glorious warm blanket high as(s) kitten sounds so fine. The lyrics are accomplished in so many ways. For one they sound great even thought i didn't first get the meaning. I thought i'd save that for the next spin. After the third i was still thinkin that i'm not 100% sure what is happening, but i like it.

To have so much content... Both musical, spiritual, lyrical and heck probably even material (i'm sure you're a hoarder of many important things!) is a thing of a beauty.

I'm loving the Bluesberries sound. The family that plays together, slays together (i mean that in musical manner!).

Take a bow!

This is a great story song Bluesberry! It's cool that your son played the cool bass here. The words and story really conjure up a movie in my mind...I can see it! Your vocals, the excellent chord changes and choice of instruments keep the 8 minutes interesting all the way to the end.

I don't really know where to start here... but I know this, there is a Berry vibe and you both have it...

love the scratchy rhythm guitar to the moon and back... the organ is so fine against the piano... bass work is top of the heap...

great production as well.. and the vocals rock.

simply smokin stuff
