Story Fest

This is the same base track as our recent "Pareidolia" collab, but with a combination of both Steve's vocals and mine.

It tells the story of a child who has been persuaded that he may have been born into the wrong body and grows up confused, eventually deciding to go for life changing surgery that he later regrets...

Bobby always did what he was told to do
You can be anything that you wanna be
But he was young and his mind he didn't know
A little push was all he needed

Now he plays the game that they want him to
He's agreed he's a girl not a boy you see
We can change our own identity

It's just your body... it don't mean anything
It just a prison... keeping you locked within
We can help you...  because we're very kind
We can help with the problems in your mind

It's just a construct, hey well so is everything
If you don't like it, you can just change anything
All the science we can throw it all away
We can rebuild it to say what we want to say

———————

So years later well he went for the surgery
But his mind was a permanent dicotomy
This new religion would satisfy his needs
Just believe, believe, believe me

It will be your salvation

When he came home... all his friends had gone
To join a new cause... to sing a different song
And then he realised... as he lay in bed
That he wanted something else instead

It's just a construct, hey well so is everything
If you don't like it, you can just change anything
All the science we can throw it all away
We can rebuild it to say what we want to say

———————

There was no way to go back to the life he had
His mind and body would never be the same again
There was just one way he could let himself be free
To lose himself, his friends, his family

No more pain, no more suffering

It was my body... I want it back again
It was myself... my own identity
You only used me... for your insanity
Now all my problems will die along with me

It's just a construct, hey well so is everything
If you don't like it, you can just change anything
All the science we can throw it all away
We can rebuild it to say what we want to say

If Life is a dream then use your imagination

the world is always pushing toward chaos... I kind of chuckle at the many who think humans will some day get their act together and everyone will live in perfect peace etc forever... I think if we were able to achieve that we already would have by now...
so the chaos keeps moving forward and what was considered basic facts, god given facts are no more...
wisdom dies when the older folks are not listened to...

Mike, thank you for doing this song... it needs to be heard.

A great story of I want it now with no thought of latter consequences,  I don't mind tattoos but I see kids with them all over their face saying stupid sayings and wonder what they will think of them in 20 years, but I digress fine song gents enjoyed it
Thanks Tim
Life is not about the number of Breathes you take, it is the amount of times your breathe is taken away

This was the highlight of my morning walk. I read the lyrics first and was unsure how this would play... :D

Turns out this is really cool composition. Great lyrics are just the icing of the cake. The feel and phrasing remind me of Lou Reed whereas the music is more edgy. It has that 80's vibe to it and the drum beats and overall approach bring bands like Killing Joke to mind.

The additional voices by Stephen (Hey... That sounds like a band name!) work in great contrast to the main vocal melody line and help to tell the story.

The mix is nicely balanced if perhaps a tad dry in places (there could be more depth to it maybe?). The arrangement is cool and keeps things moving. This one really works until the very end.
