So.  Barbershop/musichall/fairground/brass band - that sort of covers it.

Trevor sent me the guitar and vocal demo of this song about a week ago and it was just screaming at me - well, all of the genres detailed above. Or maybe it was the voices in my head screaming at me? Who can tell? Who cares?

Where was I?  Oh yes.  The song.  Trevor's acoustic guitar and the vocal from the demo were brilliant so made the final cut.  I sang backing vocals as did my wife, which a fit of madness led me to making it into a barbershop intro.  I only had to sing a line of all one low note and again an octave higher.  How hard can that be?  Well I got there eventually.  I have a voice that even a mother couldn't love but I managed - so make the most of it.

The Mrs Mills piano at the start is - exactly that.  Mrs Mills' upright piano in Abbey Road studios.  It was also used by a fairly popular beat combo from Liverpool apparently. I bought the sample library for about £30 some time ago with no idea how I would use it.

Brass band wasn't too difficult for me as I played in a brass band in school - first cornet and soprano cornet.  Like a fool I gave it up to play guitar instead. Spitfire studio orchestra Woods and brass libraries were used.

The carousel organ was a freebie library that I got somewhere.

Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as we did doing it.

Reading in the papers
You say its want
I see we are in need
I see the people queuing up
With eyes so sad they bleed
No one wants give
unless of course they receive
No one wants to pay the ferryman
They do not see the need
They say were going to live for ever
and a day
That AI will do all the work so who will get the pay

There's no worry about tomorrow cause its not gonna come
That nasty leader has his finger on the button to blow up the bomb

Where are we going
Where are we from
Is there something they are not telling us
Are there alien's living amongst us

The questions asked, but I have heard no reply
I see the answers in the papers and I sigh

There supposed to be responsible's who are in charge
But all we ever get from them is overcharged

All those politicians are not that wise
There upping up prices so become despised
Everyday another dollar snatched out of my hand
Petrol diesel gas are all going to be banned

Electricity they say, is the way
Wind wave green energy will save the day
But not enough power can be created to grow
Its Just a pipe dream to save us that we all know
Dream is becoming reality
1984 is upon thee
Look up to the skies and see the eyes
Looking down upon you
What do they know
They read your text and emails as they flow
They've got their eye on you
Your not going to get away
But we've got to try and just live through one more day
Reading the papers there's so much gloom
Reading the papers their coming for me soon
Reading the papers the weathers going to blow
Reading the papers I just don't know

Reading the papers there's so much gloom
Reading the papers their coming for me soon
Reading the papers I just don't know

I don't know
I don't know
I don't know

My life it seems to be just drifting away
I'm  working running standing still and not getting to play
Life seems such a misery with no money left to spend
All given to the tax Man to spend upon his friends

All my life all I've wanted is to live it free nit live is this world where it's pay pay    pay

This is so cool. The arrangement will take several listens before I can digest it all.

Utterly fabulous.

WOW - this marvellous track sounds tailor made for a musical stage show. Great incisive lyrics along with Trevor's cool vocal. The arrangement is astonishing with instrumentation utilised to the max, Paul and a great example of creativity on steroids.

Lovely track guys! I love the brass/string arrangements and the guitars are lovely. Great lyrics and chords here too, it has a unique "carnival prog" feel!

as great as all this is I really love your guitar solo Paul.
really cool work.... it's special to delve into some different styles and sounds and make it work this well.  Also cool that you and the wife sang on it... extra points there.

Well this is truly brilliant. So off the wall. I really like Keith's "carnival prog" description. The intro is great... that barbershop part and then that brilliant bit of old bar room piano. So many cool quirky bits put together brilliantly. Trev's lyrics and vocal put into words basically how I feel about the desperate situation we are seemingly intent upon. The music hits the nail on the head by adding the madness in spades. Well done to all involved (great that you and your wife added a vocal Paul).

I think Ray hit the nail on the head..this sounds like it should be in a Hit musical. What a fantastic, quirky song. Love the barber shop style vocals. I really love the music, Paul your additions are brilliant. Those music libraries you used, yes I habe some of them, they sound great.
Love the mrs. Mills piano.
Fantastic production and vocals. Love that lead solo too.
I have 2 profiles on this site, (NOW COMBINED INTO ONE PROFILE PAGE)
