Here is a new song that I have been working on for a little while.....it started with a comment Mark (Launched) made on one of my other songs (Scattered Bones), where he said "the decendence had happened"...and I thought, what a great line for a song......thanks for the inspiration buddy........that was the start....this song built up around that phrase, and the riff I had in my head that went with it........I changed the spelling to descendence and went from there.....anyway....that phrase inspired this quirky song...a bit of an alien invasion story maybe ...lol...I decided to forgo the usual verse/chorus structure and instead have sections for something different...Keith helped out with excellent bass and piano....for your listening pleasure......

The Descendence
written/performed/recorded by Dave Berry, with some assistance from Keith Berry
Dave: vocals, electric guitar (Epi Sheraton, Epi SG, Les Paul), GB drums and keys (organ, synth)
Keith: Bass, Korg EPiano
recorded on an iPad into Garageband, mastered in Bandlab
A fridge full of leftovers can't bring back the past
A fist full of dollars can't even make it last
Cut and run, its only a thought
Remembering what this moment has taught
The future's die is not yet cast
Yet the future's coming at us fast
The storm's approaching so set your cap

The descendence had happened
the weakerthans were loaded onto ships
My turn came, I ran into the night
Finding my way back to the site
A fine gathering for a street fight

Tonight I saw two planets
Glowing brightly from the sun
Thinking about the way we had planned it
Not exactly like when we were young

We've been right all along
Now's the time to right our wrongs

Whether I die today
Or live to see this through to the end
I'll be happy with the decisions I've made
What I stood for and what I stood against

The web your speeches spun
The lies that will be undone
With backs up against the wall
The only choice is to stand tall
Pushed to the end of the line
Eyes open, we're no longer blind
And we are running out of time
To turn that water into wine

A fridge full of leftovers can't bring back the past
A fist full of dollars can't even make it last
The future's die is not yet cast
Yet the future's coming at us fast
The storm's approaching so set your cap

The web your speeches spun
The lies that will be undone
With backs up against the wall
The only choice is to stand tall
Pushed to the end of the line
Eyes open, we're no longer blind
And we are running out of time
To turn that water into wine

We've been right all along
Now's the time to right our wrongs

bloody hell man... this is epic!  massive and deep and powerful!  Awesome job on this BB!  There is so much great ness through out... It reminds me of the 70's Elton John tracks.  There was so much power and music in those tracks... this is like that to me...

the lyrics are deep and mysterious... the whole thing wreaks of greatness.

A real epic for sure Dave, this is massive. Love the intro, it pulls you in and then you are taken on a hell of a ride. Some super chord sequences that really keep the listener on his/her toes, Loads of lovely surprises. Rocks out towards the end - that was superb. This might sound weird but I am hearing a faint echo of Rory Gallagher in this song somehow! Nod of the head to Keith's super bass playing too.

brilliant song, the music is fantastic..love all the chord changes and the production is really good.
It sounds a bit like a beach boys song, the vocals especially. brilliant lyrics though..

even better on the fifth listen.... so many nuggets of aural delight... I really love music in headphones and this is a tops.
lots of lovely details .... I think I may already be in heaven here... I'm getting to that point where reality is merging with eternity!  This song takes me even further into that everlasting life... what else do I need... a couple of IPA's and wonderful music like this?  And the breath that is in me.... it speaks that name ...(Yahweh)....

this song could drive through a brick wall or perhaps walk on water... it does everything and is everything.

Dave, this is beyond the beyond... thanks to you for sharing your deepest thoughts and outpourings.

Yeah, this is cool. Great lyric and novel idea too. Isn't it odd what can inspire musicians?

Farrell Jackson

An epic story and song Dave! It rolls along nicely from one section to the next without missing a beat. It's always cool to hear a dad and son playing in the same song and you've both done well. That outro double lead rocks dude!
