Sat waiting in for some new shelving units from Ikea to finish the other side of the cellar off. I'm turning it into an art room I've decided its time I learned how to paint ...anyway while I'm waiting I thought id have a tinkle on the piano and before I knew it the tinkle had turned into a song so I've quickly recorded it before I forget it...thanks for listening
Got a letter in the post yesterday
Telling me news that is a kind of remedy
For the ills of a time that were lost long ago
Boxed up in my mind
wrapped ready to let go
Why did I carry it so
Why did I hold on to that hurt, and not just let it go
Not let it go

The words they were as cold as ice
The truth burned before my eyes
Why did I hide behind that stupid lie
Why didn't I just say and try to put it right
I just don't know
I just don't know

Why did I carry that hurt for so long
Why did I hold it so close and not let it go
Not let it go

If I could relive that time and look you in the eye
I'd tell you the truth
I'd tell you how I felt
How you broke down in two
I'd tell you I loved you more than life
I'd tell you you were my life
it was such a silly lie
I don't know why
I carry all that hurt
I don't know why I carry it so close I don't know why

I see this as a road trip movie track - really paints a funky mood. Interesting effect on the vocals. Tremolo maybe?  8)

Really like the piano. Interesting effect on the vocals - which somehow gives more potency to the lyric.

I was listening to this on speakers doing chores around the house. Seeing a lot of Zevon nods lately, will do it again now. You have a quality vocal, and the piano playing is obviously very tinkly and nice!

Poignant lyrics, Trevor. The angst and emotional depth is contrasted so subtly with the lilting piano figure. Good song.
There are only three kinds of drummers. Those who can count, and those who can't.
