Roland has today released a new multitrack recorder app called Zentracker for iOS and Android.

https://www.roland.com/global/products/rc_zentracker/

Notable features:
  • Unlimited audio tracks
  • 7 audio effects included (EQ, Reverb, Compressor, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, and AutoWah)
  • 9 additional effects unlocked with Roland Cloud paid membership (Filter, Limiter, AutoFilter, Drive, Gater, Bitcrusher, Glitch6, Zenbeats MultiVerb, and Zenbeats Chorus)
  • Two track effects and two sends per channel
  • Audio editing with reverse, time-stretch, and more
  • Timeline automation
  • Track freeze
  • Save and share with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive
  • Over 200 included audio loops

Optionally, you can pay for a Roland Cloud membership to unlock addtional features:
  • Stem export
  • AUv3 plug-in support for audio effects on iOS
  • Full access to all effects
  • Eight track effect slots
  • Unlimited track sends
  • Access to over 20 Loop Packs (1 GB+)
  • Access to additional Roland Cloud mobile apps

The Owner's Manual is not yet available but there's a page for it, so I assume it will appear there soon.

Likewise for Support Documents: https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/rc_zentracker/support_documents/

Zentracker seems like it might be a good upgrade from the Micro BR and BR-80. There's no drum machine and the effects are limited, but a Roland Cloud membership could solve those shortcomings. And best of all, Zentracker is FREE!

If any of you download Zentracker and try it, please post a mini review here in this topic. I don't own any iOS or Android devices, so I'm unable to use Zentracker. :(

Nice! I'll be trying it on my phone and tablet.

And I just heard about this – which doesn't seem to have been discussed here before:

These two together might help answer to my two burning questions:

  • What will I do when my Micro BR dies?
  • Should I get a BR 800, even though it's 10+ years old?

(Roland GO:MIXER PRO-X Audio Mixer for Smartphones)

SonicState reviewed it a few months ago. It sounds like it's not bad for the money, but there are a few concerns such as the build quality (wobbly knobs and light plastic case).

It sells for $149.99 at Sweetwater. There are other audio interfaces available for the same price or even less. For example, the Zoom U-24 is also $149.99 and it includes MIDI which the Roland does not. But the Roland has lots of inputs and I like the way it acts as a stand for your smartphone, so it's worth considering too. And it does seem to make a nice companion to the Zentracker app.
