Clarification: Nobody wants me to play my guitar when we go camping (or other social gathering). This weekend was Independence Day weekend in Madagascar. Some of my Malagasy in-laws had a gathering and I was asked to bring my guitar – so other people could play it.

The guy with my guitar is the newest person to marry into my wife's family, and he was really good. Plus he played Malagasy songs that everyone else knew.

If I was asked, completely cold, to play something I only have a couple of songs (unless I looked up the chords!):

'Heart of Gold' by Neil Young, and 'Fire and Rain' by James Taylor. Maybe 'Ziggy Stardust' and 'Wish You Were Here' too if I had a couple of mins to remind myself.

There again, it's totally hypothetical as I'm very unlikely to be at a social gathering like that :-)

I could entertain myself for hours... and would think "gee, everyone is missing a great performance."  lol....

yes ....songs none of them ever heard...

but then again...they try to talk to me when I am listening to music.  Can you imagine?  how rude!!!

Since I perform for a living I can play quite a few songs out of muscle memory. I do kids/family music just off the top of my head I could pull out, "You've Got Friend In Me" "Side By Side" "Chickory Chick" "Hakuna Matada" "Bear Necessities" "supercalifragi..." (lots of disney).
When I was playing in bars nightly, solo acoustic, years ago I could probably play about 40 tunes by memory but I always used a music stand(and still will). I figure in a bar/club 200 songs is better to choose from than the 40 I can remember...and like 4 of them are "Wonderwall".

I didn't know that about you. Have we ever done a Children's Music Festival? I have a children's song I've never quite finished, but would if I had a fest to motivate me. Then you could use it.
