At around 2:00 I didn't have anything at all. I thought I'd try to record something and ended up writing this in celebration of St. Patrick's Day (also inspired by the mini-fest, of course). Wrote the lyrics pretty quickly and went up to record, thinking back on Irish migration over the years. I didn't think I'd get it done this quickly but here it is. I'm using the Rode NT1-A condenser mic yet again and I'm enjoying the clarity it brings. Enjoy...

Gone away
Over the sea
I come from Tralee
Where the meadows there are meek

My heart lays abound thee
Within emerald country
Where green clovers await me to find what I seek

A sailing ship
On the Atlantic
Where it may lead me
Is out of my hands

If I had it my way
I'd take hold of it today
And send it back over
To our land out east

Gone away
In the times the I've travelled
I still hear the voice of the old emerald isle
"Come back to the land you belong"
One day I'll return dear
Don't cry for too long

The daytime is grey
The nights feel empty
thinking of family
And friends left astray

Would they be in sorrow
If I came back tomorrow
And told them of my new life
Here far away

Gone away
In the times that I've travelled
I still here the voice of the old emerald isle
"Come back to the land you belong"
One day I'll return dear
Don't cry for too long

You know I'll come back dear
It won't take take too long

A lovely song tinged with sadness & melancholy. Great lyrics and a nice laid-back recording.

What a beautiful melody. What beautiful chord changes. I love it! Such emotional, poignant songwriting. Those final harmonies are superb. Brilliant job.

A great one for the Paddy Fest BerryPatch! The NT1-A has captured it all very clearly....a good choice. The acoustic tone sounds very natural as do your vocals. I like the way you've brought in the bass and drums at staggered times...that's a great affect at adding additional interest for the listener. Nicely done!

Lovely song with a great melody. The lyrics tell a great story, considering you didn't have a lot of time to write them, really impressive. Lovely vocals, sound great through the mic. And great guitars. :)
