Local music scene (and the Sanremo's Festival)

It's about to begin (tonight) the 71 edition of the greatest italian music festival, the famous/infamous Festival di Sanremo, during one week and monopolizing all public tv channels. I'm, for the good and the bad, a long time fan of it  ... now I'm curious, if you ever heard of it, and ... do you have some local festival that 'represent' , or claim to represent the national, or local music scene?

Are there any good videos about this festival?

Today I just learned about Palio del daino a historical festival in another town in Italy, where, coincidentally also is the headquarters of the Viscount musical instrument company, who makes church organs, synthesizers and other keyboard instruments, hand made in Italy.

Visiting Italy is so much on my bucket list, including so many of these awesome (and some very OLD) festivals.

In my former town, Toronto, Canada, there are of course many great music festivals, but the best festival of my life, I think, has to be the "home county folk festival", a long time (decades anyways) tradition in my birthplace, London Ontario Canada.

Probably the most representative festival across Canada, the most famous one, internationally, is the Winnipeg Folk Festival.  Canada is big on folk music festivals.  Near me now, we have an amazing Roots and Blues Festival held each year in Salmon Arm British Columbia.

Everybody come on down some summer when there isn't a pandemic.

I'm afraid I haven't heard of the Sanremo festival.

The Glastonbury festival takes place a few miles from where I now live. I guess most people have heard of that one........

The local economy round here has been affected by the (double) postponement of the festival. It brings a lot of money to the area.

No, these are completely different things...Great folk, jazz, pop, classical music festivals are everywhere, and in Italy too of course. Festival di Sanremo is quite different. There are winners, there is a TV verdict by people who choose what's the best song, lots of gossip, threre is a couple of dozens of singers who are admitted by a "critical jury"...and it's someway "national". Imagine a national Canada, or a France, or a Germany music festival...going on the main TV channel every evening for one week...probably there isn't anything like that, elsewhere.

You may find hundreds of youtube videos about it. I don't see it since...ever. But for sure you will hear to the songs in the next months on all radio channels.

It's extremely popular in Russia and some nations in South America...

This year's happy new year greetings in Russia were made by a Russian TV channel as a perfect parody of the Italian music festival of Sanremo... ;D

I'm not familiar with Sanremo. I am a long-time fan of The Eurovision Song Contest though. We should enter a song to it Max :-)

OK, that's it: 80s sanremo in 10 minutes. You have to know that wins Sanremo the 'easiest' melody, that everybody likes (since everyone can vote). Can you imagine a 'old grey whistle test' on 60ML people? Sanremo is right this!
Now is no more so, but right in the 80s, just to make you understand, if you didnt knew someone and wanted to make a gift, you bought a LP of the sanremo winner, or a compilation of that year's sanremo.
The 80s are the best period, to me, because every musician tried to be somehow easy, so everyone had a chance - the national-popular and some classy songwriters, you have them both at the table (and what a table) !
Now there is another story about Sanremo, the year of the Luigi Tenco tragedy, but if you survive these 10 minutes, and you like to listen, I will tell.
