News of the death of Johnny Clegg really got me thinking about how I ended up in Africa.

Remember the early '80s — pre Graceland? Music by Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, and others was coming out with African sounds mixed in. I was a college student, intrigued by the idea of Africa, and the music kept the intrigue going. I was nibbling on the African musical bait. Johnny Clegg's music is what made me bite the hook.
