What should we do

Started by The Gobi Desert Canoe Club, December 01, 2018, 09:46:52 AM

I have read posts from members that are worried about the lack of response, lack of new material, lack of interest in Songcrafters and I have come to the conclusion that there is very little if anything I can do about this. What I have done is to change me, I was Willie but have now evolved into The Castrati Brothers. The Brothers are five or six imaginary musicians that live in my head and produce what I hope is listenable music. This of course would not work for everybody but trying to see songs from the perspective of the drummer or a keyboard player or a bass player adds a totally different perspective to the music you are trying to produce. I get most of my lyrical ideas from overheard conversations, could be a supermarket queue or a doctors waiting room, could be little sound bites that lead to a catchy chorus. Inspiration is everywhere, it just needs to be recognised. Keep playing guys.

I really like this idea Willie. In fact, that has actually been on my mind for a couple of years.
I believe a fresh start is a good thing sometimes, especially if a person feels they didn't represent who they are properly, or events go sideways. That way it helps to allow for creativity without the crushing weight of past issues.
Or maybe just a reinvented style to make it interesting and stoke creative fires.
I think I'm going to change my nickname as well and maybe different musical style.
Maybe it's time for change.

Indeed Willie, inspiration is everywhere and I'd love to be called The Castrati Brothers!

Interesting idea Willie. I think we all have our alter-ego's. For example, I hate singing infront of a microphone, but over the years I've learnt to do this by not sounding like me, if that makes sense??? You need to detach yourself from the process and look at yourself from the outside. I've never had that problem in playing - as I did it from an early age with the violin. In terms of the creative process, that is an interesting idea - 'method acting' kind-of, having an alto-ego bass player? Do all the other members make jokes about the bass player or the drummer (whats the difference between a drummer and a drum machine, you only need to punch the rhythm into the drum machine once  ;D ;D ;D ;D). It is a really good insight, jokes aside. I will try that next time.

Ok, Willie, but...why exactly "Castrati"??? In Italy this word doesn't sound good at all...  :(

Hi Alfredo, as you know the Castrati were able to sing very high due to being castrated pre puberty, I think this was popular with composers in the 18th and 19th century (not too sure of the dates). The reason I chose The Castrati Brothers is because my voice is very low and I talk very quietly consequently leading to irony which amused me or perhaps it was too much red wine!

Perhaps you can take one for the Songcrafters team and get yourself castrated Willie to see if it does raise your pitch !   ;D  It would be an interesting experiment !

Excellent Willie (euh pardon Willie Castrati )
I did an experiment with a few brother musicians. (here https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=28320.0) ..but I'm still hesitating to take the name Averell Dalton ;)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
