Changing Ukulele strings

The strings on my uke feel like they're a bit stretched and old now. Feels like they should be replaced but looking at the bridge and how they're attached scares the bejesus out of me.

Is changing strings something anyone ever does?  And if so what brands are the best to use?

Mine has the slotted bridge where you tie a knot in the end of the string and push the knot under the slot. Yours does look a bit more complicated. There must be a video on YouTube to show you how?

Best of Luck !

I don't have any ukes with that kind of string tying, but I did it with my classical guitar a few years ago.

Not very difficult to do - start from the high G string, and make sure you pass enough string over the bridge for the loops under/over the string, as well as an extra bit on the bridge side so you can tidy it with the next strings you tie.

Good instructions here (classical guitar, but the same concept): http://www.derek-hasted.co.uk/faqs/restring/

He either has a massive ukulele or tiny, tiny hands

That's actually really useful, Pete, thanks. Now it looks less scary.

While its easier than it seems to change them and to tie those loops, I think uke strings can last quite a while. I only change mine if they break and unlike guitar they don't break often. Aquila strings are the gold standard in uke strings and they come quote long, lots of room to pratice the tie.
Good luck.
Rock on!

I broke one a few weeks ago and put a new set on, not too bad really I just tied a knot at the end then slid it through, I thought it would be harder, took a while to stretch them though...
