i have been quite successfully running mint 18.3 but i have just this minute installed ubuntu desktop. on first glance it seems a little slower to boot, but that may be because its first run. mint 18.3 was incredibly stable compared to windows 10 i am expecting the same from ubuntu desktop.

Personally, I'm quite happy with Ubuntu. But Mint is a very popular Linux distribution, especially with people coming from Windows.
