Yes, that's a great point. You guys are pretty tight now. Why not do more of a "studio" recording where you lay down the instruments individually and then mix them after? You get pretty good recordings at your rehearsals (and the live ones are fun) but I think if you recorded (say) bass and drums together as a backing track and then lay guitar and vox over the top you could get a really good quality recording.
