This poll is for the "Artists/Covers" festival. There is a separate poll for the "Theme/Genre" festival here:

  • John Lennon's jukebox - In 1989, a jukebox owned by John Lennon was auctioned at Christie's for £2,500. It contained 41 singles that Lennon listened to while on tour in the sixties. This festival will consist of covers of those 41 songs plus the 41 B sides. More information about John Lennon's jukebox can be found on this Wikipedia page, and a complete list of the 41 A sides can be found here. If this festival wins the vote, I'll try to compile a complete list including the B sides.
  • Current Top 10 - See this message.
  • Classic Country - covers of songs by Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Dean, Patsy Cline, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Skeeter Davis, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, etc.
  • The Kinks - covers of songs by The Kinks, including solo works by Ray Davies and other members of The Kinks.
  • 80s VarietyFest 2 - covers of songs by Soft Cell, Duran Duran, Ultravox, Echo and the Bunnymen, Flock of Seagulls, or The Psychedelic Furs.
  • songs by eccentrics - covers of songs by Vivian Stanshall, Ivor Cutler, wildman fisher, Roky Erickson, John Otway, or R. Stevie Moore.
  • 60s psychedelia/flower power - covers of psychedelic or flower power songs from the sixties.
  • songs from the brill building - See this Wikipedia page.

Hook

Songs by eccentrics seems rather vague to me. Elvis Costello could be seen as eccentric to some as could Tiny Tim. Adam Durowitz (sp) from Counting Crows is eccentric in voice but not at all in song. Let's all just vote for current top 10 ::)
Fest ON!

I agree with you, Hook. It's too open to interpretation and we have no way of deciding what qualifies and what doesn't. So we've decided to restrict it to the following six eccentric artists:

  • Vivian Stanshall
  • Ivor Cutler
  • wildman fisher
  • Roky Erickson
  • John Otway
  • R. Stevie Moore

If it wins and proves successful, we could always do it again in the future with another six eccentric artists. Perhaps members could suggest names if we get to that point.

Here are some more pages about John Lennon's Jukebox:

http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/john-lennons-1965-portable-kb-discomatic-jukebox

It seems that there's no authoritative list of the songs but this one has most of them:

http://chimeradave.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-almost-complete-list-of-45s-in-john.html

Here's an image of Lennon's actual list. Unfortunately, he didn't fill-in all of the songs, and some of them are a bit cryptic.

The list on this page attempts to put them in order according to the image above:

This first list is based on the song list image above in Lennon's own writing. Some songs are blank because he didn't fill-in those places on the song list. A few songs are speculation because of crossed-out entries on Lennon's song list or titles that could have more than one possibility.
