This is a ballad featuring an unusual subject matter for it's story
Criticism welcome.
For the life of me, I cant seem to get rid of the clicks at the beginning
and end of the master recording with this DP-004 Tascam.
Anybody got a remedy?
I already know about setting the IN & OUT points, so any other ideas?
I feel the track is 98% perfect except for that problem.
Tell me what ya'll be thinkin :)

Lyrics:

Magdalene was the name of a sad lady
at the carnival down on Lovely street.
Cursed with a beard;
men paid to see her look weird,
but no one could buy her heart;
beating so... beating so...

Curiosity stands beneath her marquee.
A sheperd he; height of about 8'3"...
sees her there, wonders about her hair:
is she like me an outcast and lonely?...

(bridge)

After the show,
when vulgar men have thier go,
he says "hi", no sarcasm in his eyes.
Lends her his hand, helps her down from her stand.
She is surprised; "Can I learn to trust this?"...

Tenderly; he doesn't mind what he sees.
She's his mark, she kisses him for a lark.
He leans in, allowing love to begin.
Never to spend; now her heart is borrowed!...
Beating so, beating so.

I agree with the "sinister" vibe... it's hard to pin down why, actually. Perhaps the way the vocal melody seems to be resolving to upper extensions of the chords, rather than roots, thirds & fifths, is what lends it this quality. Whatever... it works for me, anyway. One critique... the guitar seems to have been recorded a little "hot" and is a bit "clippy" here and there. Never the less... a great bit of songwriting  :)

I like the song and the blend of instruments used are great. As JR said the guitar seems to be a little clippy, and I find it a little loud in the mix.

Definitely strange and surreal... lyrically and in the dark, folky melody of the vocal. I like it though - very much. Has a hypnotic quality about it. The guitar clipped a bit and I'd have pushed it a bit further back to bring the vocal more to the foreground. That's just me though.

p.s. also listened to your 'Planes' song - really loved that one!

Hook

I really liked this a lot, very strange & mysterious ( I can see sinister), I dig the lyrics. I listened on my phone so not great speaker but there was a lot of clipping on the guitar & it's a little distracting but a great song! Was that melodica? I dig it my brother & sister!
Rock on!

I like the guitars and the vocals (I really like the vox), but I feel the guitars drown out the vocal track in places. It sounds like the guitars are recorded very hot, that it is clipping, making noise. The only way I know to solve that problem is when recording make sure you don't hit 0 db on your recorder. In fact it is best to hit at most about -6db. You can always "push up" the fader if needed. I'm not sure what your mixing process is and I'm not familiar with tascam products so I'm afraid I"m of no help. And in fact, you might be perfectly happy with the track as your notes have said. In which case ignore my rambling. The bottom line is that the song is good and that, in my opinion, is the most important part.
