Now that I've played with the Kaossilator a tad, I think I can answer some questions (with help from Nigel).

Features in no particular order:
100 sounds, a fair portion of which are useful.
-Some sounds from the Triton series.
-Some light break beats are ok but most drums sounds are blech.
-Some lead sounds are great fun.
Touch pad with XY axis
-X axis plays notes of 31 different scales
-Range depends on sound chosen (2 octave minimum I think)
-You choose the key and scale
-Scales range from the modes, ragas, spanish, gypsy, etc.
-Y axis can be delay level, volume, feedback, filter level,
      etcetera, depending on the sound
50 arpeggios
-Chose a sound and it will arpeggiate rhythmically
-To arpeggiate melodically, use the touch pad along X axis
You can layer sound on sound.
You can play live over your loop without adding a layer

Limitations:
  -No midi
-Unless using a patch with volume control, you can't control
volumes of individual sounds within a layered loop.  This can be
overcome if using different tracks on the BR.
-2 measures of loops (4 with a trick learned from the Internet)
-Using touch pad far from exact (but loads of fun)
-No sound and/or effect tweaking other than using the Y axis on
    the pad.

All in all, I'm glad I purchased it.  It's fun on its own, and I'm sure I'll integrate it into recordings.  I have taken to plugging it into the 1/8 inch stereo-in on the front of my car stereo (not recommended while driving).

Also, my brother is relieving me after nine days sequestered at my mother's place.  I am itching to record, but I'm afraid of what awaits me at work.  Thank you again for your kind words regarding my mother's health.  It's a great little community.

Peace to all.
