Best AND Cheapest guitar amp?

I can put together a brand new 25watt solid state amp that sounds okay for 140 bucks US. It's the Fender 25R Frontman (that sounds like shit by itself) with a brand new Eminence speaker to replace the cheap ass Chinese speaker that comes with it. I don't have a lot of experience with it, but I've heard a very similar set up (with Celestion speaker instead) and think it'd be a great backup/home amp for the money.

Anyone have any thoughts or other suggestions?

If you want something cheap, I think you'd be better off with a modeling amp like the Fender Mustang I V2 which you can get for $119.99 at Sweetwater or Musician's Friend.

The Mustang I is 20 watts. If you want more power, you can get the 40-watt Mustang II for $199.99.

Definitely sounds good. I agree with the dude, the supersonic preset sounds very good. Now I've got G.A.S. for an amp I never even looked at before (and don't need.)  I usually mic my amp playing live anyway, I'm wondering if the smaller cousin would be enough.

Spent two hours looking at these silly Mustang amps. That Mustang II just might get bought this week. Maybe. It would probably be just right for the small gigs I do and I could save a bunch of time and effort. At the very least it'll be a decent recording amp for demos and the like (or more if the videos are accurate.) But having a backup amp that is small, portable, lightweight and not tube would be nice. Of course, I could spend less money and retube my Delta Blues and have a second amp, too. *ponder*

T.C. I've had a Mustang I amp for a couple of years now. It's the first generation and not the V2. It cost me $99 U.S. and it's a great little amp with a lot of good sounding amp modeling presets. The Super Sonic preset rocks the house. It's 20 watts with an 8" speaker. It's a good amp for the studio and might be passable for very small gigs but I would suggest it's big brother the Mustang II at 40 watts x 12" for gigging headroom. I'm a tube amp guy but the Mustang I is the best tubeless amp I've ever owned. I highly recommend the Fender Mustang Series, which ever one you chose.

Hi TC, I've had a mustang 1 series II for about a year and love it. The tonal variations seem to be endless. I think it maybe a little underpowered for live work but although I haven't tried it, I suspect it could be direct inputted into a PA system from the headphone socket. Roscoe

I have been looking at the PEAVEY VYPYR VIP series.
They advertise it as a dual bass/ guitar amp modeller, which is something that makes a lot a sense (at least for me).

I haven't tried it yet.

Thanks guys. I usually end up mic'ing my amp into a P.A. anyway, so a small amp would work. The 20 Watt would probably be fine, but I'm seriously looking at the II 40 watt version. And the single button footswitch to change between two presets that I probably won't use.  I figure if nothing else it's a good back up amp that would be fun to play with in the basement and record with.

Got the II (40 watt) version which should be here any day from the store. I'll try to give a review when I get it. 200 bucks US brand new and I spent another dozen on a single button footswitch which might be unnecessary as it only switches between two presets. But still might be useful. I figure for recording it might be a nice toy and if I can get a back up club amp for small gigs that is useful in other areas then why the hell not?
