Ashes
written & performed by Hook
Can I call on you tomorrow?
Can I count on you today?
Would you still stand by my side?
Or have I burned that bridge away

Ashes to ashes, not quite dust
My smooth, sleek finish is beginning to rust
This carefully crafted façade
Up to now I have maintained
& as the curtain falls
It becomes clear who's to blame

Can I meet you in the middle?
Or is it much too late for that
I'm not sure who I should portray
Can you help me pick a hat?

Spread myself to thin
I put Vaseline where butter should have been
I've spoiled all my soil
& there will be no harvest at all
& there will be no harvest at all
& time slows down to a crawl

Can I offer an alternative, perhaps a better day
A golden path with flashing arrows
That light up the way

Where spirits lift or leave or come
I don't think I know
Spirits tied between the lines
Next to the ebb but under the flow

Ashes fall like rain & coat the world
A second skin
Will mystery remain for the next of kin?

Because the Hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely

Lovely stuff. I really like the vocals and tone in the voice. Reminding me of Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) a little - nice warm tone.

So good. I love the mandolins especially, but the whole arrangement is beautiful - and lush. Feels like a really well-crafted song with huge amounts of depth and poignancy. Lovely stuff.

Oh I'm really trying not to comment on that one  ::)

It sounds great Hook, softer on the vox than some of your originals and the mando is a great addition.
