Music publication

Hi crafters,
              Are there any forums or info about music publishers and how to get your songs on their books etc.
I hear of musicians putting Music up for films,tv etc through  music publishers and the international songwriters used to put out a book of music publishers addresses for a fee years ago but I would like to hear about other songcrafters experience with this.
Some have had a bit of luck with music being used in films etc but what's the best way to put your work up for submission?

I did in the late 90's - I assume they are still informative to some extent.
