I think if you added some electric guitar and drums, those would keep it off the road to sappy-ness. Think of it more as a power ballad production ala Aerosmith. It's a good song and to my ears it's well worth putting more work into it.

Hy Mr bud, what a great post, i can feel the good vibes all way trough. Piano and acoustic go together so well. I agree with Farell a little electric solo would be cherry on the cake, but this is already a five stars post.
