JACK Audio Connection Kit has been available for Linux for many years. It is the standard for connecting multiple audio apps together. It lets you connect the audio and/or MIDI from any compatible app and route it to any other compatible apps, and provides low-latency audio and MIDI. Most Linux audio apps support JACK and many require it. I use it all the time.

JACK is now available for iOS devices (iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch) as free, open-source software.

Unfortunately, since JACK for iOS was just released today, there are only two compatible apps available; both from the same company (Crudebyte) that has released JACK for iOS. But it's hoped that other apps will soon appear with JACK support. If that happens, JACK will be a very useful free tool for musicians using audio apps on iOS devices.

Crudebyte has a page in which they plan to list all the compatible apps. It will be interesting to see which apps are added to this list in the coming weeks and months.
