It's not him and it's not me – Hilary Fox 13.2.14

He never liked Cup-a-Soups, they say
He never liked Cup-a-Soups,
Is that all you've got to say!
Who's a twat then?
Well it's not him and it's not me
Who's a twat then?
well that just leaves you, see

A small skip was placed in my street this week
This week -
At first I couldn't work out why:
For old paper, bedding, jaded photos
Of a royal wedding?
No none: Just
All my wasted time.

hey
darling lucas
dont you know my name

hey
darling niki
dont you know my face

I'm your father, sons
long time - gone
to earn enough to live

when the times got hard
I had to part
and that's the way it is

hey
darling lucas
you're a grown up man

hey
darling nikki
you are my sweet little girl

I'm so proud of you
how you get trough
a time that isnt fair

just to hear you pa'
on a distance call
I know is not the same

...

hey
darling lucas
did ya win that game?
hey
darling nikki
what about your boyfriend?

how I wish someday
I could fly away
just fly myself back home

may it be next year
if I work that deal
may our parted days be gone ...

Maxit (sorry, don't know your given name etc), I'm rooting about on here looking for something else and I came across your poem. I think it is excellent, dripping with ruminative angst and prospective opportunity. Given the passage of time, was there an outcome?

Thanks, Hilary. I foolishly boxed-up a lot of lyric sheets in the Man-Cave which I can't access at the mo, but I was sure that I had uploaded something short that I could wrap two chords around. I've now found it. Cheers.

PS: Y'know, I wish this thread had gone on longer with more input. It's the root of civilization.

Ciao Steve, Max(it for italy) speaking ;-) ! Thank you for remembering this one ... I love much poetry but I never really tried, and actually this is a song lyric. I have a crush for lyrics saying what's gonna happen but the song shows clearly that ... it really won't happen LOL. Heartbreaking but it really works, musically. By the way, it's 10 years that Tim opened this thread, time flies!

Just seen this thread, what a great selection of poems.
Here's mine.

  Mind games
_______________
The rain reflects like a mirror
As the night screams out to scare away the daylight.
Cars create corridors of light and scar the streets with toxic lines of vapour
as they skid Into the heart of the city.

Neon lights flash visual marketing bombs
That explode in the minds of young corrupt
citizens praying  that today will be much better as they struggle to navigate through
the wave of yesterday's pain.

This is life in the concrete maze we call home.

Sirens slash the air with dark vibrations
Heads turn for a second then return to their screens
Slaves to technology ,living the dream.
You wonder if this is all a hologram
But  only because your mind has been
Coerced and twisted .

Life was much better when we knew nothing.
