Free Music Courses at Berklee

Berklee College of Music has some free courses starting in March and April.

  • Introduction to Music Production with Loudon Stearns
  • Songwriting with Pat Pattison
  • Introduction to Guitar with Thaddeus Hogarth
  • Introduction to Improvisation with Gary Burton

Courses are 6 weeks long and will require 6 to 8 hours of your time per week.

I've signed up for two of those courses. I did it a looooong time ago, but recently got an email as a reminder. So if you sign up for the production class or Pat Pattison's songwriting course I'll be suffering learning with you.

There are also a lot of other courses there (all for free) for those interested.

I decided to take the improvisation course as well.  The prerquisite knowledge said you just needed knowledge of basic chord structures and that you've attempted to improvise over basic blues changes.  It is being taught by none other than Gary Burton (long time Berklee instructur, dean, V.P., his own albums, Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, etc.).

Don't reckon how  am going to time manage this, butI am getting excited.

I'm actually using this as a test. If I can do both of these courses, keep up with taking the youngest brat-child to softball practices and work and still not get a divorce letter from my wife then I might go back to school and finish my degree. We'll see.
