BR-800 input options

I'm a bit confused (and dismayed) at the limited input options on the BR-800. For instance, I have a modelling amp that I like to use instead of using the internal effects of the BR. I would like to be able to use the 1/8" line out of the amp, plug it into the 1/8" input of the BR, while simultaneously recording voice via a dynamic mic located on one of the XLR inputs. No can do. Another option would be to use the guitar input of the BR while jaming along with (and possibly recording) backing tracks on an ipod plugged into the line in jack. Anyone else have any opinions on this, why they don't allow this option etc. ?
