Living In Sin (Rock)

Hey, guys!

Here is a song in four flavors. All four versions are based on a simple synth bedtrack I had done. The first step towards turning it into a real song was done when Bill joined and applied his guitar magic to it, replacing my fake synth guitars and adding lots of new stuff. Then both George and Mark created their own vocal melodies using the same lyric by Paul, and we even had two great drummers, Todd and Marcel wanting to play on it. Andy was so kind to do the bass, and I tried my best to put all the pieces together.

That's REALLY interesting hearing them like that.

I'd go for B and/or C.

A and D didn't really grab me.

And the difference is the vocal/drum combos.

It got me thinking. Are the vocal performances (A & B and then C & D) the same? Sounds like it. And same with the drums?

What was each musician listening to when they did their part? Is it possible that the B and C pairings are the natural ones that actually happened, while A and D are the ones put together afterwards?

If it's not that, then it shows that a singer's got to be choosy about the drummer (and vice versa)!

Nice song Steffen , as usual it drips quality , I personally liked both vocalists , but if pushed I think version B had it all , fantastic collab , great mix & master , loved it

I can't decide which is the best one. The tune(s) itself sounds a classic to me!! The both vocalists did really good job!! The brass additions were just great!!

Very cool Stoman, quite a fun analysis. I dig B, love that drum track and think the vocalist did a great job. Very cool to have so much to work with. Love that keyboard? (boingy thing) solo before the last refrain.

Andy, the drums were recorded last, when all the rest was done. The vocals were done based on the original midi drums.

In the meantime I have received a lot of feedback, and in total each version seems to have its audience. When I first posted the four versions at a German site everybody preferred version A, except one who did not like the chorus there, and everybody said that Todd's drums were better. I don't agree, I think both drummers did an equally great job - and so did both singers.

BTW, both George and Mark started as guitarists actually. George has collaborated on a lot of songs as a singer (I posted some here, e.g. "Lizard Men" and "Alive", but for Mark it was his first vocal collaboration. A pretty good debut IMO, even though he isn't comfortable with his own voice. But that'll probably come.

I haven't been able to listen to the songs posted here lately. I don't know why, but they all don't play in my browser any more. All other sites do work though.
