Against You, Against Me

Watching you sleep
So peaceful, so subdued
Watching you sleepwalk
You wipe your emotions on the wall
You paint your guitar
You straighten the cheshire devil on your lapel
Are you against yourself?
Resting your head against me
I wonder how you can believe in fate
I thought you didn't believe in anything
I guess I thought I knew you
I feel the weight of the world against me, leaning like your head
One day I will need to lean against you
I hope you'll prop me
Look at what I did while you were sleeping
I watched you bite the devil
I smoked all your cigarettes
I fed the blind man and the elephant
I set the angels on fire
Were you watching me in your sleep?
Are your emotions still against me?
It's over now, my darling
You can wake up
I've seen the devil without a grin, but never a grin without the devil

It's over my head. At least while I'm sober.
I'd classify this more as free verse than lyrics.
I think of lyrics as having rhythm and rhyme.
Maybe that's just me.
But then again..it's all about me.

Lyrics are always different within the context of a song. Sometimes they don't resonate in the way they do aurally when you read them in cold black and white.

I'd like to hear these lyrics within the context of a song, because you can't tell what the emotion is behind them - i.e. anger, sadness or resignation.

Got to agree here. They look like great lyrics, any chance you can put them into verse/chorus and stuff, and maybe a bit of music?? At least give an idea of the feeling?

I am just amazed.  I don't know how you do it.  One person puts up just words and another one comes up with music for it.  Or you do it the other way around.  The talent here is just stunning.
