Good luck with you op though, Nigel.  I'll be interested to know how it progresses.

Nick, it's an old post, I had the op about 18 months ago. It went fine, full recovery and the surgeon (himslef a jazz guitar player) said playing the guitar was good therapy. I don't wear a watch now though - it was definitely aggravated by wearing a "big" watch on my left wrist. So if you have the symptoms, it;s worth getting it checked out. I was lucky enough to get it done quickly because I have health insurance through work.

Jim, careful with those tablets (Eugene)....

Cheers,

Nigel

Hi Jim, I work in a hospital theatre and I gotta say that prognosis is good. I asked a consultant who does this procedure every day of his life and he reckons you should be back to your normal use within 6-8 weeks. The keyboard playing will and has acted as a form of therapy, Regards Willie

cheers, willie. yeah hopefully i wont need any surgical intervention, i think that is done only in extreme cases, and tonyw is correct re the massage. mrs orh thinks i am at  the madam (kidding her) there tho.  its not stopping me playing but it feels as if someone has punched me in the arm and given me a dead arm, it is bearable but at night time when theres less things to distract me from it it gets uncomfortable. but am looking forward to trying the pills the doc gave me. on every dark cloud there is a silver lining.

dont worry its a very small dose t. and apparently low dose works well with symptoms, when i get x-ray results i will have a better idea of the long term prognosis, but i hope to get it working fully again without the need for further medical intervention.

and nigel the watch thing rings a bell with me. since i have had this condition, watches dont work on my left arm but work on my right arm. a watch my wife bought me when i graduated from college stopped working, so i got a cheap watch to do me till pay day to replace it. it didnt work either, i thought cos it was cheap. but i put it on my right arm and it worked fine. so i asked me wife where she put my good watch, so i could try it on my right arm.

you guessed it she binned it, i mentioned to the doctor about the watch thing, and he shook his head and  raised his eyebrows as if to say you are kidding james.

Is it a mechanical, self-winding watch?  If so, maybe you should try wanking with the other hand.  ;) :D

Sorry about your arm problem. Doesn't old age suck? I hope you have a speedy recovery.

no modern one with battery, i presume you googled it too, seems watches stopping is an urban myth but i dunno i think my left arm is charmed.
