Which Joan Armatrading album is that? I don't see anything in the discography that looks like it although there are several collections.

That should be Keith Jarrett for The Koln Concert.

I'm actually making a list of these. I'm making a list of the ones I don't have so that I can check them out. So it looks like I'm being picky, but I'm just trying to straighten out the list for my own personal use. I've got it all moved over into an excel sheet so that I can sort by artist name or album or date. If anyone has more to put on the list I'll be happy to do so and post it if someone wants it. (Or Maxit can add it to the original.)

TC, I'm sorry I have this Joan Armatrading CD I have to check in my box. I had several Joan albums, and ALL the Paul Simon and Simon and Garfunkel vynil, and much of the John Denver production, but... don't have no more vynil player, so I've lost them all. I'd be glad this to be an open list to which all of you can add your really best, favorite songwriting albums, here's mine (the majority of them, you know, don't need my opinion to be recognized masterpieces, and the opthers I just love them;-). Feel free to add yours!

Maxit, you have a very big heart!
TC, the Koln Concert is one of my favourite albums ever. I got scared when I found I could sing the piano parts by heart!

My definition of a great song, is when you take AWAY everything, and leave it just with an acoustic guitar and voice, and the song still works (e.g. anarchy in the uk, is not a good "song" but is great track/ music.)

An album I find amazing as a collection of songs is Suzanne Vegas' debut album "Suzanne Vega", back in 1985. Oh, and Cohen's debut album too 1967's "Songs of Leonard Cohen".
