I was going to suggest a strap too. I bought one of these a few years ago and I really like it:

It has a certain amount of stretchiness which makes it very comfortable. According to the manufacturer's description it makes "heavy electric guitars, basses and acoustics feel 50% lighter". I don't know if that figure is accurate but it does make my heavy guitar seem lighter than it is when using a conventional leather or cloth strap with no "give".

They have another one called the "Super Strap" which might be even better. I don't think it was available when I bought mine.
