This one may be at worst a great cure for insomnia.  Enjoy!

Dear Electricity,

Be my metropolis.

My hometown is no more--
crumbled like a cookie
through a fault line in my brain.

It's ancient cityscape adorned
my mental pathways

I'm a refugee
residing in a house of cards of sympathy
sent to me
by the citizens
of my heart.

Like the blood that flows inside my head
my ear detects your pulse, your hum
within
these paper thin
walls.

Instinctively
I match the surges
of your energy
But we're not equal
physically

I don't ask for exclusivity
I could never be
oh
so
audacious

I ask only for what I have already:
total liberation

Perhaps, I thought
at least you would understand.

Thanks for listening!

EDIT on the advice from LG (below), I equaled out the levels a bit, so here is a revised version.

Hey Trevor,

I greatly enjoy your 'spoken word' compositions....kinda similar to Jim Morrison's
stuff in some ways. This is a cool experiment as well!
But, one little nit-pick....The volume levels are so far off that I had to continually adjust
them as I listened, which in turn was hampering my enjoyment.
So, I have taken the liberty of running this composition through Audacity to correct
the volumes, and I have reposted it here for you....
I hope that you will be pleased with the out-come.

Thanks for the comments!  I'm honoured that you took the time to adjust it.
I probably should adjust it at the source.
I am using Audacity for this.  Is there one specific effect that would level everything out?

Otherwise I will simply do it by ear.

Did you notice this issue for my "spoken words" in general, or specifically this one?

In this case, I had to output this as 128K in order to post it, which introduced some distortion in the vocals, I think.  (Unrelated to the volume level concern).

lg

Really only with this pece!
I do not know of any automatic feature....Anyway it would probably just level
each and every split second to the same level, which would result in one
long continous sound.....
I think.....LOL
Anyhow, I have been enjoying your stuff of late....
Keep rock'n

That could be interesting too.

I was really just wondering how you evened out an MP3, but probably you simply looked at the wave and boosted the low parts.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying it!

very interesting and well thought out words.I am inspired to take a turn at spoken word soundscapes with some of my songs that I am not able to fit into a musical groove and just sit on some scrap of paper from weeks or years ago.I will give them life! :-\

Brilliant! Your words are stunning, simply stunning. So imaginative. The soundscape is excellent as well. Afraid LG's version still works better for me, the vox are still a bit lost on yours.

Cheers

An interesting composition.

I agree, spikes in the volume here and there. More balancing between tracks should fix it.
