What a bunch of BS.

I'm a fan of Nirvana but Kurt Cobain #12!!!!!
I'm not a fan of Rush but where is Alex Lifeson!
PRINCE!
Adrian Belew!
Nels Cline!
Andy Summers!
Dean Ween!
Roy Clark!
Brian Setzer!
Slash!
John Lennon!
Dave Matthews!
Bobby Baker (Tragically Hip)!

...and no females!

...not to mention all the instrumental wankers that guitarists love!

We could probably make a list of 100 guitarists that weren't included.

But we could certainly NOT make a list that we all agree on....

I agree with Sandy... I'd love to know what criteria were used, because this is an idiotic list overall. Most of the predictable ones are in there, but there are some glaring ommissins and puzzling additions. Now, Lou Reed is a great artist (Transformer is my favourite album of all time, in fact), but there is no way that he's a 'great' guitarist. Same with Kurt Cobain. They are important and influential guitarists, but that's a different thing. Also, BB King at no.3 is laughable. He's a legend and a great bluesman, but he sure isn't a great guitarist. He just knows how to use minimal notes and vibrato extremely well. And where the fuck is Johnny Winter? Or Johnny Marr? Jeff Buckley? Paco Lucia? Nick Drake? Glad to see Mick Ronson make the list though - he's too underrated. I think Bonnie Rait should be on there too. Yep... we could do 100 who aren't on there easily.

They do have Joni Mitchell, which is a good thing. But that's a pretty poor representation for women.

Jennifer Batten should at least be consideration on any list for innovation as well as skills.

Joan Jett is 87 as well.

I know these things always cause arguments but even then I think this is a pretty lame list.

Personal peeve - Angus Young always gets pasted in these things, if mentioned at all, and the guy is a guitar genius (within his particular genre of course)

...oops, sorry Joni.

Eddie Van Halen at 70 ... now that's just ridiculous ..... whether you like him or not, he sure is one hell of a guitarist in every definition of the term !!

And tho I'm aware that guitarists choice of what a great guitarist is not neccesarily coincide with the public opinion, I don't find many here that's been even nominated as the best guitar player of the year, much less best guitar player of all times.
