Recorder: Micro BR (Some assembly and tweaks in Audacity)
Ted: Acoustic guitars, Acoustic bass, drum sequencing
Tony W: Electric Guitars
I haven't posted any new music since April, when I was in the midst of a very long transition between homes. When things started to settle down, I decided to spit out a quick song and get back into the game--even that took about two months.
Much thanks to Tony W who offered to escort me with some guitar for my comeback.
I really like what you've done here , this is a bloody good song Ted , neat vox , are they running through an effect , maybe doubled , they sound wicked , and some clever guitar work from Tony W , allright , way to go tony
Rob

Great additions by Tony as well !!!
Love it !!
Ted, this is fine, fine, fine. Tony you sound positively wonderful here, your electric is perfect for what Ted is laying down. And what that Ted is laying down is a monster song, really fine. Welcome back to posting songs with a bang. I get a Wilco vibe sorta, quirky Alt.Country, Tony's guitars are playing their part perfectly, I am rambling here guys, I LOVE this one Ted. Hot damn, Ted's back in the game. Fantastic song.
What a great vibe to this, Ted and Tony. :) Really nice work.
(Any chance of the lyrics being posted? ;))

Well Hello again!!!!
And What a come back!!
I can really relate to the lyrics!
This is Superb!
and TW's Guitar is Sounding Superb!
I love this song!
Downloaded and on the MP3 player!
I'd love to take credit for some fantastic lead work, but I gotta tell you, I just sent some straight up tracks to Ted and he got creative in a liberal fashion. It's brilliant, and thanks for making me sound so good Ted!
Thanks everyone. Rather than follow my famous protocol (https://songcrafters.org/community/index.php?topic=4399.msg52019#msg52019), I'll bask in the attention right now.

I ran my voice through a Digitech Vocalist Live 2 onto two tracks, which added a lower harmony. I wasn't satisfied with the stereo separation, so I offset one track from the other by 3/100 sec. This wasn't an effect I was after. I was just too lazy to try to sing a harmony part. Glad you like it.

I think I need to investigate Wilco. I never would have thought Alt.Country on this, but that's definitely a genre that interest me. More on Tony's great guitar below.

Really? I
don't really relate to them. I tried to put myself inside the head of someone I barely know, and understand his perspective.

Tony sent me eight--eight!--takes of a solo. It seemed a shame not to use them all. Yes, I did do some Cuisinart on Tony's guitar, but if the guitar wasn't great to begin with, it would have been "Garbage in; garbage out."
It was great to have so much raw material. For example, I knew I wanted a swell (http://www.music.vt.edu/musicdictionary/texts/Swell.html) coming out of the chorus, but hadn't decided if I was ambitious enough to figure something out. Suddenly, I had it right in front of me. It just took a little Audacity to reverse a sustained note and make some Tony swells. But Tony's solo is the highlight of the song--with no Audacity gimmicks.
Welcome back Ted! There's a killer melody on this and your voice sounds real good. Fine, clear production, too. And Tony, fantastic additions...!

Brilliant Ted, just brilliant! Love that bass, but of course that's to be expected. Lovely fretless-ish sound. The production is fabulous, love the vox and the Cuisinart on Tony's guitar, which fits really well, you did a great job. It's a great song as well, really excellent feel and hooky little vox, and nice and different. You're in Henwrench territory here, it sounds a bit like Wilco meets the Kinks.
BTW, do check out Wilco, I took Dave's advice and really enjoyed them.
Good to see you back posting such stellar music, although it's a slight pity there are no screaming nine year old girls.
Cheers,
Nigel

Only much better!! Frickin' love this tune, what an opening line, brilliant. Ace lead work, sounds great, top song, proper job me 'ansome. When's the album out? Put my name on the list.

OUTSTANDING!!!!!. Right to the top of the list on my I-Pod. Those lyrics are so much fun. That bass could be a song by itself. Vox and lead guitar WOW. I am with Henwrench, put my name on the list for the album.....Ted
Been busy with some things at home, so I'm getting to this a bit late....
Excellent song, Ted! Really love the production you've done here, and the kind of jazzy feel to it all (it swings). Vox and lyrics are terrific. What's an HOA? And that bass is totally knockout! Tony's guitar sounds perfect, from straight to Audition sweetening. Did I mention I love the production? Stellar!
HOA = Home Owners Association. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeowner_association) I don't think I could live somewhere with an HOA.
This is a great comeback song. I love that bass!
Regards,
Steffen
I'm really enjoying this one. It's a good song, with a good lyric. Nice feel to it. And the added guitars work very well.
Enjoyed this - All round a very "clean" production. Words are keen and the guitar picking very fitting.
All in all - BGS (Bloody Good Stuff)

The bass is my Michael Kelly 5-string, fretless, acoustic plugged straight into the MBR with the Bass Cln effect.
The production was pretty simple. I recorded the acoustic guitar part two times in stereo. The playing is almost identical on each take. Take one was through the pickup (and preamp) into a stereo chorus stomp box. Those two tracks are panned left and center. Take two was using the GTR+MIC setting, with the mic also on the guitar. They are blended together on the right, with the farty pezio sound more center, and the mic more on the right. I have a couple of other acoustic songs where I think I'll use this technique.
As for "Henwrench territory"... That's intimidating. I don't want to be held to that standard. And by "that standard" I mean "down by men in white coats."
My screaming 9-year-old is now a screaming 11-year-old. I'm not sure we've heard the last of her here.

What's scary is that that's a manner in which I might also express appreciation.
As for the waiting list for my album: Be sure to will your place in the queue to your heirs.
Thanks again for the feedback.
Today was special day: I was on "On This Day" as well as "Latest Songs." That might not happen again, or it may happen as rarely as when oldrottenhead is on neither.
Since nobody has said it, I will: I think Tony sounds like David Gilmour on this. The effect I used on the guitar was Pan+Dly, which combined with Tony's tone, and his style, I was reminded of the solo on
Money. I get chills after the crescendo in the middle of the solo.

Nice! I had a '78. Gutsy and smooth. Didn't like unleaded gas much.
I high-sided it on the Blue Ridge Parkway in 1994, and had to sell it cheap to a rabbi in Silver Spring, MD. I needed the money. Haven't owned a motorcycle since--but I think about it a lot.
This is fantastic.
Unusually, I read the lyrics first before I pressed play. I don't often get grabbed by lyrics on their own - but these I did. Then I restrained myself from reading any comments while I listened...
It's just... just... really good! :D
Glad you could hear that swell coming out of the chorus - it's perfect, just what it wanted. I love the gap there and how "I'm the clean up man" takes us back again.
Interesting how you don't relate to the lyrics - I don't relate to the lyrics of the last one I did either. But I love singing them. It almost feels like I'm freer because they're not me or the usual way I do it - hard to explain, but I have a feeling you know what I mean :)
I love this!
Awesome song and the playing and production is absolutely sweet! And the vox rule! Tasty, tasty, tasty Ted and Tony!

...I think you got the start of a great song there, " Silver Spring Rabbi Rides Again" !

The end of the first verse originally went:
I take my turn on my terms
'Cause I'm a prick.
I thought about it and decided that this guy doesn't realize he's a prick, but I do. So I tried to see the world from an prick's point of view. This was inspired by a guy I barely know, so it's not really about him. It's more about my visceral reaction to him the two or three times I've been around him--and my trying to take a more empathetic view. But he really did go on and on about his HOA once, to a group of people for whom it could not have been less relevant. Taking out "prick" committed me to temporarily share his blind spot.
My favorite line is
I could make this long story short but..... you've got all day.
That describes nearly Every prick I know.
Some Ted with a Splash of Tony!!
What a Great cocktale and what a Cool tune.
Love the Tip Toeing GROOOOVE!!!

I'm gonna masterbump, cause I'm just so satisfied with this song. There, I admitted it.
The honest truth is that I wrote this song very quickly with the expectation that it would be kind of mediocre, but at least I'd be actively recording again. My invitation to Tony was something like, "Wanna put some guitar on a throwaway turd of a song?" When Tony agreed (having not even heard my mono demo), I realized that I should try to make it worth his time. And then a series of happy accidents ensued.
I'm glad people seem to like it.
Exceptional song and agree with others about that bass, its unbelievably good.
The song is brilliantly structured and creates some great dynamics.
Tony's additions slot in perfectly, and some mighty fine playing going on there too
Production is crystal clear..sounds perfect.
Wow, I really, really loved this. Great production and the slinkiest bass I've heard in a while.
Downloaded for further consumption.

Thats the way it works sometimes. It sounds like you were visited by sweet inspiration...it comes when you least expect it doesn't it...and then the results are more than originally expecting. Thats what I really like about making songs, the inspiration that sweeps you up and those "happy accidents" that go with it. And you ended up with a very strong wonderful song.
Really cool song & lyrics Ted, i really like the driving bass line and well thought-out transitions! Also dig Tony's guitar work and 'special' reverse-echo fx there, really cool!
Your chorus is very strong.
Hey just caught this one what a great listen, don,t hear enough of your stuff, great gueetar by Tony too, quailty.

Thanks for the bump. I still look back at this one with a bit of wonder over how it came together.
Guest bump! Probably Ted looking around at his songs, but I figure I'd bring it up to the front for all to hear, because it's that good. And the fact that I'm ashamed that I never posted a comment, even after listening to it several times.
HI Ted and Tony.. fantastic. for sure this should b on all
internet radio and commerical station.s this would sell
a million copies easy. very catchy great job cheers NEIL.!
Thanks for the bump! Today I was hankering to hear this one.

You both should be proud of this.
It's really an incredible piece and miles from a throwaway.
Tony exemplified what I like to call creative restraint. Which made what he played feel/sound that much cooler.
Ted, you got some set of pipes on you, dude.
Well Done guys
I haven't seen this guy in at least a couple of years, but I ran into him today working at a local music store:

A decade plus bump. Wonderful tune that reflects influences but lives in its own zip code. I get to hear this every so often from my beloved Songcrafters folder.

Thanks for the bump. This tune has been performed live by two different bands. I can't think of any other song of mine that has achieved that distinction. As a "fan favorite" this probably second only to Dechromium Cob.
