Mr. Higgins and I have been working on this one for the past several weeks, flinging mp3's back and forth across the Atlantic between North Carolina and Scotland (Crete some of the time). After sending James the basic musical structure to get things started, Oldrottenhead returned with the basic lyrical structure in usual fashion- in about an hour. Then followed many emails and hours of re-writes, tracking and re-tracking and mixing.
Most of the tracks were recorded either directly on the Micro-BR or through the BR to PC, basically using the M-BR as a channel strip for recording. Mixed in Sonar (22 tracks) and then Mastered on the M-BR. All vocals were recorded using the M-BR on-board mic.
We had a blast with this collaboration and hope you will enjoy the song. Thanks for listening!

Way Beyond Your Dreams
Words and lead vocal written and performed by James Higgins
All other music written and performed by Ken Lowry
Captured a very nice atmosphere on this one. Really enjoyed the background vocals as well.
Will give it a couple listens later with fresh ears.
Very nice job.

got to thank ken big time for this one, usually i only spend a couple of hours on a song before moving onto the next one. but he made me tighten up the lyrics and my vocal performance etc so not my usual slapdash effort. by the way girls voice at the end is my 6 year old daughter jenna, you forgot to credit her ken, bad boy.
during the making of this i lost a dear friend so in ways i didnt realise until i heard the finished product, i think it affected how it turned out, thats another story for another day tho.
lyrics, the story behind the song etc can be got at www.soundclick.com/thebunkbeds
and ken you are a genuis a wizard a true star, cheers
james
Sounds like a lot of work went into this, and the end result certainly shows it. Nice work guys, all sounds good here. Thought the backing vox shone out on this. Nice song!
Nice work, the mix sounds spot on. The time and effort put in have paid off. Good stuff
Very cool vocal work on this song.
The sound quality and the mix are impressive.

Great work! it has a kind of a mellow Def Leppard vibe to it that I really dig.
Really nice work. Can I say it has a tinge of Pink Floyd? (in a good way of course...!).
Thanks to all you guys for the responses. :)
Way Beyond Your Dreams charting at #9 on Soundclick this morning:

Way Beyond Your Dreams still in the top 10 this morning (barely) on Soundclick|Power Pop genre. Made it up to #4 earlier in the week.
:)
very nice work - Def Lepard meets Pink Floyd!
Excellent work guys!
Very nice layers. A lot of effort when into every nuance.
I've listened to this for the first time.
Ken, your music is skillful, your playing is accomplished and your production is amazing. I've had experience of the things you can do with backing vox on some to the stuff we have done (Tim, Jim and I) and your track shows just how good you are at it.
This track is among the best I have heard, and that's not just BS for the benefit for this forum. It could be a major artist's work produced by a big record company, it's a credit to this little box and the ways in which you use it.
James, your vocals are wonderful I don't have superaltives to express how much I admire what you have done here. It would sound like a stack of insincere bollocks. So I'll say no more.
I'm bumping this because I think that it shows a touch of brilliance and there are a lot of new members here who won't have had the chance to hear it. It deserves to be listened to.
Record companies take note: This is the future of music. The re-democratisation of art. Your old models have outlived their time. It's this you should be taking notice of. The £50/month man will not be shopping in the stores for much longer.
Thanks guys. It's on my PiePod. And it's FREE!
I'm one of them (new members that is) and I hadn't heard this one. It's a great piece of work on all fronts and I agree that it shows that inspired musicians doing what they love now doesn't need to be held back by recording deals, studios and middlemen.
Great job, quality product. Thanks for bumping Flash.
Cheers,
Nigel (signing off for hols now)
Wowie zowie THAT was really something !!! (thanks for bringing it up Harry).
What an extraordinary piece of work! Great !!!
G.
Wow, 1st time I've heard it too!
Thanks for the bump... Indeed!
Great song guys!
Nice production.

Mike: Thanks for the bump! :)
And also for the kind comments from you and the other guys. I enjoyed finding that here this afternoon. It's fun to go back and listen to a recording that have you haven't heard for a while, with fresh ears. That Higgins guy is very dem clever... ;)

it is indeed , the thing for me it is bitter sweet, as i did my bits of the song predominantly when on holiday in elounda in crete, but whilst there my best friend donny passed away (he was an original member of the bunkbeds) and i missed his funeral, im glad to say i saw him before i left for holiday. but anyway that event played heavy on the lyrics we ended up using, and i am sure hoop can attest to the fact of the many rewrites and rerecordings we did i think i used up a few sd cards on this one, i think there is even a version with hoop on lead vocals, anyway i am rambling and for a change sober.
;D Awesome Production ;D
Love the song!! Sounds better than some songs done for a
lot of money in a High cost studio!!
Great work guys
Jim From Jersey
You guys did a brilliant job on this. Shows what one can do with patience know how of the Br. This is one of the best posts. You can tell so much work went into it. Great.
Great work all round song, production and talent hope you guys can take it further you deserve it with this song.
this is probably my favourite song, hoopers musical and production skills excel on this one and n particular i want to thank him for badgering me with umpteen takes and rewrites, he is a hard task master but i think the end results where well worth it.
its an emotional song for me as it was greatly inspired by the loss of my close friend and former bunkbed member donny morrison, enough rambling or i'll get all emotional.
anyway ken (hooper)thanks for this one it means a whole lot to me.
Glad this got bumped - I really liked it - I'd never have found it otherwise.
just an update. regarding my late friend donny, who greatly influenced this song it is a year since he passed away. he was a regular visitor to the wickerman festival in scotland, in factwhen he was ill in hospital he tried to sneak out to this very festival, anyway on saturday his brother roddy placed his ashes inside the wickerman and the wickerman was set alight at midnight on saturday a fitting send off for a great guy.
BUMP!
Just been listening to Hooper's unplugged version, and I reckoned this could do with a bump and all... It's a fab song.
Guys, have you got a full mix of this, bvox as well, but without the lead vox? The reason I ask is cos, a couple of years on, I think you could do far better lead vocal now Jim. I'm guessing you don't like going backwards, and you might not be able to match the emotion on this take... but if you've got a mix to hand, give it a go and see what happens... you might just turn a "hey this is pretty good" track into a "oh my goodness" track :)
wee donny would have hud his birthday today if he was still around.
miss yeah donny.
Wonderful song guys, nicely done in all aspects.
on this day bump from kos.
me and my daughter jenna (who appears on this) are sitting in our apartment listening right now.
Splendid stuff.
Fantastic!!!
Amazing work on the back vox too!!!
donny would have been 49 today, i raise my glass to him.

A great collab. very tasty stuff. I love the production. Man I thought I might be getting there, but you were there years ago.
