Title: where he once began ( Facemask93 Original )
Post by: Facemask93 on July 05, 2009, 03:46:41 PM
I have to say this site has inspired me to write this song , you guy's are so damm good , that untill i  joined this community , i did not have a clue , but you people have enthusium and time for all , good , or not so good , and it is this attitude that has given me confidence to try a bit harder.
Anyway enough of the gushing , this got a little complicated for me after three bounce's but i think i've actually learnt something today , this sounds better on cans but what the heck , please be honest , i won't learn otherwise

What a great song, agree with Geir, the melody is wonderful.

You have mixed this very well, and listened on the headphones, and was able to pick out all the instruments very well.

Your vocal is very strong, and suits the music perfectly.

I, like you, did not have a clue about all this stuff before I joined this community and have gained confidence from both the useful tips I have picked up and from the postive reaction to the songs I have posted here.

Hope this encourages further to post more work on here, because if its half as good as this it will be well worth listening to.

Great stuff!!

Yes!!!!!! Just when I think the day is over, I get to hear something as wonderful as this!

I wish I could have helped you more earlier, because the technical barrier is all you have - like I have said before, screw the plastic - you have the real talent.

Such sweet music, excellent guitar and vocals. I've already listened to this piece twice while writing my reply(It's hard to listen and write!!).

There is quite a bit going here and you mix everything  so well, and the bass and the background lead kick a$$. (Maybe bump some of that cool lead guitar up a little)

A+1 = A1!!

Wow great song facemask!!  Cool 12-string sounding acoustic and nice subtle background lead!! - of course I suggest turning that part up  8)  You got a very good voice there as well - with nice backup as well!!

I'm impressed!!

So great Facemask93.  This is really good.  your lead is actually pretty damn good, it needs to come up in the mix a bit.  This sounds like a lost song from that first David Gilmour solo album, the guitar, the  voice, the feel of this (which is a very good thing in my books).  This is so wonderful to see all these folks coming out with fantastic original songs lately.  One of the best things I have heard in a the last couple of weeks on here.  I like your style.  Good one, you can't stop now, get busy writing your next song.

WOW  THis is just awesome.  Loved your vocals. Mixed to perfection.  The lead could have been a little louder, but it stands great. One wouldn't want to overpower your awesome vocal. And of course you have that dreamy accent. LOL Great job!! I loved it.

This is great Facemask, a beautiful, eerie song with lovely chord structure and fantastic bass - I just love that part, simple, but very effective with the style of song here. The vocals and harmonies are superb, but from all your other work we know you have a stunning voice. This is quite reminiscent of some Pink Floyd from the Saucerful of Secrets/Ummagumma era to my mind, but only slightly - it's very much your own work.

A couple of production thoughts if you don't mind. It sounds good on high quality headphones, but on less good kit, the bass gets a bit lost and the reverb/echo on the main guitar in the left channel becomes a bit dominant, especially in the mid range frequencies. Also, I'd be tempted to spread the vocals more widely across the stereo image, they seem a bit over on the right to me. But nothing major, it still sounds haunting and quite beautiful.

There's also a long gap at the end - I was exepecting some kind of "hidden" track to appear!

Cheers,

Nigel

bin away for a week so nearly missed it, glad i found it tho its beautiful and i think its a great mix.

but try mixing with different set  ups. i use a battered old pair of powered pc speakers and if it sounds good on them it will sound good on any equipment, mixing on headphones can sound great on the headphones but less good on other equipment.

anyway i digress love the vocals did you double track them all the way through?

FMK - I think that this is the first time I've posted in the Micro-BR MP3 section, and sh*t, what a Baptism!! Astonishing is the word that springs to mind. I've listened to the song through speakers and headphones. You're right, there's subtlety in the Cans-Mix. The song reminds me of a track from the Meddle album by Pink Floyd, I thinks it's 'Climbing The Hill', but I may have the title wrong. Whatever. I would suggest that you have a future in music should you wish it, it's a quite excellent start to Your Forum membership.

Oh my God... I love it. Lost Floyd, indeed. But with traces of late sixties West Coast in the vocal too. Some of those chord changes are incredible, and you have the vocal melody and guitars working in beautiful harmony. This is what good songwriting is all about. To say you've nailed it is an understatement. I take my hat off to you... this is top, top quality work.

p.s. I know your pain on the lead! That's where I was 6 months ago too!!!

Thank's again all you guy's with your positive comments-------ORH yes i double tracked the vox throughout the entire song , was going to add some backing vox but was getting lost with the bounce's ( must in future write down what track's have what on them ) love the fact people can hear Pink floyd in this it's quite flattering , Greeny you are someone that has given me so much incentive with your original's , praise from you is the highest compliment thanks mate , in fact thanks everyone

I know others have created their own track sheets, but I couldn't find any so I made one for myself, which I've posted here

https://songcrafters.org/community/micro-br/br-track-sheet-and-ted's-drum-sequence-worksheet/msg35956/#msg35956 (https://songcrafters.org/forum/micro-br/br-track-sheet-and-ted's-drum-sequence-worksheet/msg35956/#msg35956)

for you in case you might want to use it. I note the patch, Volume, Panning and reverb in each square.

Also attached is Ted's drumtrack sheet, which I use for counting measures, even if there are no drums - It's great for marking where a particular overdub should go.

Magical music. this is so good. Don't be disheartened by the production comments, it takes practice to get the techniques right, but the creative aspects, the playing and the writing are just mindblowing. I love this song. I'd pay for this song. Bloody fantastic.

Are you f-ing kidding me, Facemask?  Did I read that correctly -- this is the first song you've ever written?  Jesus Christ, this is ridiculous.  If I posted the first song I ever wrote, I'd be laughed off the forum.  People have had some really incredible things to say about my music, and every word is appreciated ... but I had the luxury of sort of working out a lot of the kinks before joining this forum.  Now, if you're going to tell me this is your first song and first attempt at recording, I may just give up music altogether, because there is no competing with you.  I'm kidding, of course -- great musicians like you are more inspirational than anything.  But just how much are you going to evolve in a year?  5 years?  It's scary to think about how good you could get. :o

This is just a beautiful, mellow song, and yes, definitely has old Floyd written all over it.  I love the lack of percussion in this one.  Sometimes people think every song needs drums; and most songs do, but some don't.  Your vocals blow me away.  You might be my favorite singer in this forum -- and as you know, that is saying A LOT.  Do you listen to a lot of psychedelia and prog from the early 70s?

The guitar solo definitely needs to come up; I will agree with that.  Other than that, I hear a near-perfect production.

Blown the F away :o is what I am after just two listens.  I need to hear more, period.  Before I heard the song, I saw that it was like 10:23 long, and I said to myself, "Oh shit, this is going to be WAY too long."  Then I listened, and noticed that the length wasn't accurate.  Then, I was disappointed that it didn't go on for 10 minutes.  Or 20. ;D

Debut song with a taste of classic Beatles art of songwriting and progressively, I see your own thing you bring along the song... inspiration, vocals harmonies, little sound of a overdrived guitar,
Great production
