Title: This Ain't A Movie Show
Post by: Ron D Bowes on March 25, 2024, 08:15:34 AM
The biggest problems I had with this one were a)Coming up with the lyrics. It can be difficult to find many ways to basically say the same thing LOL and b) the bass line. The original bass was busier, which sounded OK at the time, but when I came to layering everything else on - it didn't work, so I had to re-record.

Bass direct line in.
Rhythm guitars through the Marshall MG10. Second with added plug in.
Sally my custom guitar - Slide through the Marshall
Outro lead the Tele through the Marshall with distortion plug in.
Blues harp through a bullet mic with slight distortion and reverb.

Unfortunately I had to crush this to 112 kbs to allow upload

This Ain't a Movie Show

This ain't no movie show
And we ain't actors so
I hope that you will understand
You can't re-roll the dice
If you see something nice
You have to take it while you can
If you forget your lines
There ain't no second time
You have to try to get it right
This ain't a burning building
And I don't mind admitting
Sometimes it's hard to see the light

There ain't no second chances
You only get to have one shot
This ain't no dress rehearsal
You better give it all you got

Sometime's life's a bitch
And you can't scratch that itch
But you can dance out in the rain
So just enjoy the good times
Avoid the hidden landmines
'coz you can't do it all again
This ain't no practice run
You've got an empty gun
You better get some ammo now
'coz when trouble comes
You'll need a loaded gun
You'll have to fight them off somehow

There ain't no second chances
You only get to have one shot
This ain't no dress rehearsal
You better give it all you got

If we can just unite
Put up a better fight
Then we can keep a steady ship
Now maybe this can work
If we stop being jerks
And work on this relationship
No need to lose your cool
No need to play the fool
There's no need to scream and shout
This ain't a movie show
And we ain't actors so
Let's try to make this all work out

There ain't no second chances
You only get to have one shot
This ain't no dress rehearsal
You better give it all you got
There ain't no second chances
You only get to have one shot
This ain't no dress rehearsal
You better give it all you got

It can be difficult to find many ways to basically say the same thing LOL I know that feeling 😂 but no worries with this one it was worth the effort on those lyrics loving that harp

A cool song. I like the slow rolling grooves. A change of a pace that's sometimes needed.

The soloing and harp hits the spot too.

As for second takes. There's always second helpings... :)

Great instrumentation and arrangement.  Love especially the harp.

Really dig this one. Even being long, I never lost interest with so many great instrument parts jumping out at me! Very cool! 8)

"sometimes lifes a bitch and you can't scratch that itch"...

that line alone is worth the listen.

but there is so much more here... however I do think the lyrics are really strong on this.

and the harp... and the guitars.

question:  do you mic the little amp or is that using head phone out?  sounds really good.

the bass is solid... nice mix... vocals are stellar as usual

Cool rocker, Ron with all the right ingredients mixed perfectly. Production is spot on and love the sound of that new Marshall.

Yes I use a Subzero instrument mic. I bought it when I bought the amp.

That's the story of my life. I'm supposedly a bass player, and my bass parts always start out too busy.

The "crushed" version actually sounds pretty good. When I read that, my first thought was, "Well it must be too damn long, Ron!" But I didn't find it over long. It has a live feel. I'm picturing myself hearing this live in a bar, with a beer in front of me, and saying "Fuck yeah! This guy gets it!"

True, it's not an original sentiment. But it's a sentiment that always merits repeating. And you've delivered it with power.
