Title: Midnight Minstrel-Original
Post by: Johnbee on March 05, 2024, 05:41:11 PM
Brand new.  Hope you enjoy it!

There's never time enough to talk to you
much less to say what's on my mind
Most times the spoken word does fail me
Sometimes it's better just to sing it in a melody
Pretty notes and rhymes will fill my mind and heart
Everytime I think of your sweet smile
Your imagery inspires a thousand different melodies
The hardest part is to pick the one that sings to my soul

                        (Chorus)
So I can play it over and over for you
And I will sing it for you anytime you want me to
So that I can be your midnight minstrel
with a simple tune I made just for you.

Thinking of all the songs I've done before
None have been this close to my heart
No one I've known before has inspired me so much
It's only right then that a pretty melody should form.  It's just a start.

And I will  play it once again for you
And I will sing it for you anytime you want me to
So that I can be your midnight minstrel
with a special tune I made just for you.

              (Instrumental break & repeat chorus)

Dig the building instrumentation and that bass line kills! Interesting progression as well. Nice one! 8)

Beautifully arranged, John and great performance. Love those bass lines and I like when the strings enter at around 2:13 also that trumpet sound at around 3:15. Nice melodies as always and I don't know what you're worried about regarding vocals - sounds fine to me.

The first thing that stands out to me is the cool bass. A good sound and it covers a lot of notes on the neck from high to low. Your piano aways sounds good. The strings just entered and they sound great. The second thing that stands out to me is the arrangement...it's very sharp and thoughtful. The third stand out is your vocals/lyrics...top notch work John!

I will take this as if it is directly to my heart... and it is.

sweet.. lovely...soothing... comforting... precious

the keys in the quiet moments speak to my wisdom, to beckon me to reach higher and love better and more... and to crave less those things that are detrimental to loving other human beings.

inspirational... on my 5th listen.

the first time I heard it the opening drum line made me immediately start it over and over... because those kind of drum riffs do that for me (see digital man by Rush)....
this music goes into much higher realms of conciousness than most of mortals ever reach for... very ethereal...
they don't make music like this now a days... I have only ever heard touches of this sort of thing on the radios of the past a few times... most people can't go this deep.

I am sure dwelling on such a lofty island can be a lonely place at times (I mean this in the greatest complimentary way)... however if you look there are angels all around... never alone ...nope.

When am I going to learn to expect great bass when I listen to your songs?

I see a new song post from you and I think, Fancy piano chords incoming! Maybe a trumpet solo. And when I listen, It's always, Yes, but that bass!

Really liking the vocal harmonies too.

What a crazy ending. It's like the soloist started as he was closing the door behind him.

Very nice.

Really good (as usual 8) ).

Super clean recording, everything sounds great.

As others have said, cool bass line. I like the strings and trumpet too.

The lyrics are very telling. Tell a great story.
The brilliant music really support them well. Your songs are so well recorded and produced.
I love your piano work, I like that kind of style. But all the music is great. And great vocals.
I like the key change/ instrumental part at 3.15.
Really enjoyed it!

You are a top song writer. You remind me of Randy Newman. Cool piano. This is another great track to add to your catalogue.

I agree with the randy newman quote (add some billy joel too)! This time I appreciate a simpler melodic line (I'm a country boy, I can't help it LOL). Sweet , sweet, sweet song.

I get the Randy Newman vibe.
That piano is excellent.
Your compositions always feel so complex to me but they seem to come so easy to you.
Nice horn additions and strings.
An excellent song.
Your vocal is so crystal clear on this also.
A great mix.
Well done.

It's midnight and that's the right time to hear this song (again).

Beautifully arranged instrumentation. A bassline that's classy and somewhat funky. There's so much to digest. The interplay between the trumpet like bassline and brass instrumentation is worth hearing in itself.

Although the song is filled with lots of melodies and different sections everything fits together so well.

Great lyrics and vocals too.

Another winner from the JohnBee songbook.

The only downside with this is that i'm once again trapped in this music player :)
