Title: Winters Ghost
Post by: DarrenG / The Devil's Toupee on February 11, 2024, 12:56:46 PM
Hi all..Keith came up with the idea for this one. I added a few things to it and mixed it. hope you enjoy. Thanks for listening.

                        Winters Ghost

Unfurl your banner...sound your trumpets
Surely you will know
To you of dull wit...all I ask for is watch until she glows

(CHORUS)
She floats like a ghost, a ghost in the winter garden
Floats like a ghost to me
She floats like a ghost, a ghost in the winter garden
Floats like a ghost to me
She cuts like ragged steel, she cuts like ragged steel
She cuts like ragged steel through me
She cuts like ragged steel, she cuts like ragged steel
She cuts like ragged steel through me

The time has flown... the light has left this page
That read of her own doom
A lady that was full of Grace...forever walks alone

(CHORUS)

(INST)

She cuts like ragged steel, cuts like ragged steel
She cuts like ragged steel through me
I shoulda turned back the tide, shoulda torn down the walls
Shoulda ripped apart the world for you
For you

All your songs are so well produced, Darren. All of them 'radio ready' or what we used to call 'broadcast quality'

Apart from the excellent production, the songs, like this one are brilliantly constructed, arranged and performed. Great use of special FX in the instrumentation and vocals. That guitar section near the end is so bloody good and such a strong chorus.

Wow, killer piece! Grabbed me by the balls and never let go! Love the construction and presentation. Dig everything  about it. As Ray said: "broadcast quality" for sure! 8)

A great listen with some surprising changes. Excellent vocals and guitar work! The instrumental section with the harmony guitars made my ears perk up. Well done!

Blow your trumpet Gabriel? Nah, this ain't Behemoth. This is clever pop song that has a slight 80s vibe that gets soon buried under 90s influenced sounds and songwriting. Then it goes back. That's mighty clever.

Great vocals and playing. The song itself is both memorable and slightly familiar sounding. The kind that sounds like coming home.

This is like a tribute to a forgotten side of the 1980s - the interesting dynamics and textures that don't fit in with how the decade is remembered.

Very controlled musical tension with great expressive vocals.

A fantastic song and very well produced. I can see what Ray means by "broadcast quality".

I agree with all of the above... it is a great arrangement and construct... the vocalist is amazing and clever and talented...
the lyrics are pointed and deep...but I don't get them... but that never stops me from listening anyway...

I don't feel as though I have to get them...

yes Darren Gibbons is an amazing musician and producer... wicked good track... and always..

I listened down through your list the other day as you know... about an hour... phenomenal!

the most amazing thing is how much you can do in these tracks without it ever getting cluttered...

Zoltan has a kind of nice way of putting it. I agree, it's a comforting, welcoming sound. Some lovely guitars in here which pull it slightly away from pop and into rock... kind of somewhere in between.

It's a great song guys, I am tapping my foot here as I listen (for the third time)

Something was nagging me though, but in a good way as the song was flowing through my my head. I would have possibly put some backing vocals on the chorus to lift it even further, but what do I know :) But the way it is will get more listens from me anyway for sure.

Lovely job chaps.

Mike

The 80s are alive and well. Love the vocal effects on the intro. Very cool vocals. And the instrumentation is super. Lots of catchiness in there.
