Title: Memories
Post by: thetworegs on January 06, 2024, 09:11:07 AM
isn't it funny how we lie to ourselves to preserve that version of self we like....I was having a play with the ivories and mulling this question over
The Yesterday's in life are always beautiful
There always untarnished by the truth
bitter words are forgotten falsehoods made to sooth
Just so those memories can become our truth

Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves

Callous actions vicious torments
Actions of the fool from your youth
Half truths pour into your mind like vermouth
To cover the truth that can't be traced

Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves

Days filled with anger and mistrust
Actions that were taken that were unjust
The lies to cover the truth of misery
The memories made up to invent a history

Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves

Break

Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves
Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves

The Yesterday's in life are always beautiful
There always untarnished by the truth
bitter words are forgotten falsehoods made to sooth
Just so those memories can become our truth

Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves
Facing up to self
Putting truth up upon the shelf
Just so we can try to love ourselves

I appreciate you asking the big questions via song. As much as I like this stark version, I kept expecting it to bloom into a full arrangement (and then perhaps end again with voice/piano). Just a thought.

Great post.

Ive taken your advice Blooby and tried to fill it out with my limited ability. I had done this before but wasn't sure so I just went with the piano and voice but on re-listening I think your right

That's a good call from blooby, the extra additions make it a much fuller song now. Great song trev.  :)

I can find myself in these lyrics so much, and the line "Just so we can try to love ourselves" I really felt. I listened to both versions and appreciate both. I like what you did with the remix version, Overall this song reminds me of how I first began using piano to carry thoughts and ideas / playing along with the emotion. With or without the added layers, this is a special song and thanks for sharing.

I am going to go against the grain here. I think I prefer the starker original version. The piano standing alone like that just makes it more "lonely" and darker for me. But both work well. Great song Trev, and a great little observation put to music.
