Title: Below The Southern Cross
Post by: Ray Brookes on January 06, 2024, 07:10:50 AM
I plough a lonely furrow, hum a tune
Drink whiskey straight late in the afternoon
Talk to myself when I'm cooking
Have a little dance 'cos no-one's looking
I catch the rain below the Southern Cross

I pull water from my well and chop the wood
The country where I was born has gone for good
Multiculturalism at work
Just another PC word
Things changing fast below the Southern Cross

You wanted me to grow up and act my age
If I could act I'd leap upon the stage
I can hear your words right now
Within these walls they hang somehow
I sweat the sun below the Southern Cross

Your name inked on my arm; how you approved
Now it's just another tattoo I have to go and get removed

I amuse no-one and no-one amuses me
I'm using nothing and nothing's using me.
No social media – I'm disconnected
There's nothing here I'm expected
To do but make my peace below the Southern Cross.

I speak my words below the Southern Cross
Never let me wander just in case I might get lost
My time will come sooner or later
I'll walk beside my own Creator
We'll sit for a while below the Southern Cross

Things changing fast below the Southern Cross

Next level songwriting. I have come to really look forward to your posts. Great arranging as well. Those harmonized clean lines caught my ear as well.

This is real super songwriting and production, Ray. The guitar flourishes are way cool. To top it off, you sing your words so well!

Yes, this is a fine piece of work. Arrangement, vocals, harmony, and that Santana-ish lead tone are all stellar!

The song title made me think of the CSN song.  Yours is a different song, but in many ways just as good. I literally think CSN could sing your song (I would like to hear their harmonies on it) and it would have been a hit.  You write music on a deep level, both in the music and lyrics. Nice work!

Great song Ray... dark but powerful. Tremendous lyrics brought to life with a huge sound, but a few delicate and surprising touches in there too. Excellent.

Heartfelt lyrics in this.  It's sung with such heart that the listener is drawn deeply into it.  Yeet another winner, Ray.
