Title: "Old Christmas" a Geir original
Post by: Geir on December 21, 2023, 05:11:52 PM
YuleFest (banner image missing)

I started this a couple of days ago. Maybe a week. I was close to posting it as an instrumental this morning, but after my three cups of morning coffee I got possessed by this character........

He was a bit incoherent so the fourth line in the first verse gives no meaning at all, but I transcribed what I thought the meaning was.

I think the melody is original, but I did try to write a Christmasy song so I might have stolen some notes here and there.

Instruments used are all from iPad:
Bell and piano sounds from Korg module and iSymphonic.
Choirs ditto + cubasis.
Bass and drums are internal Cubasis Instruments.
The distant cello and the snares towards the end are from the new halion addin to cubasis.

Oh there's one real instrument:

Beer tambourine  (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=13837)

Happy holidays  !!

Old Xmas

I reach my hand around the tree
So there's a hand to hold
I'm glad the tree is not that big
It's just the size it needs to be

I should put the oven on
heat up all the meat
Probably put the pot on too
Potato must be boiled

I march around the Xmas tree
I sing out loud and clear
I wish somebody else could hear
Though I don't have that much to say

I think i smell some burning toast
I'll get some butter out
Chestnuts should be roasted now
I'll get my good stuff out

I reach around the Xmas tree
My hand is getting cold
I hear the sound of ringing bells
I guess I must be getting old

Coming from Norway and using the word "OLD" made me think of your world famous politician Fenriz.

I like the sound of bells, and the use of synths, but it's the vocals that fill the stocking. And by that i mean Christmas Stocking, if this was hair metal it would mean a totally different thing.

Beer tambourine? Is there no limit to this mans talent? I think not. The song sounds like a legit (old) Christmas classic.

Brilliant Christmas song. I love the music and the lyrics are just great. But also have a sad twinge to them with the characters words.
Merry Christmas

This is great!  You are really master of all instruments, both real and virtual. I would like to help you prepare the materials to make some more of those tambourines!

Fits perfectly into the Christmas vibe. Very nicely produced with a Mark Knopfler kind of vocal that works so well with the song.

This is a lovely Christmas song! This sounds original and fresh to me. It has a cheerful vibe but the words are a little sad. Your voice tone and performance is excellent. I listened to this a yesterday and thought I had commented but no (too much eggnog I guess, lol). It's a real good one Geir...Merry Christmas!

I love the vocal. The bells are a nice touch, too. I could hear how the instrumental would be seasonal but I like the weathered feel, the more intimate take, with the vocal.
