Title: Demo song snippet - testing my old microBR recorder
Post by: des0free on November 09, 2023, 12:54:52 AM
Update: Completed song posted here:
https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?topic=34252.0

I was cleaning out my bedside table since it was getting attacked by some kind of wood eating bugs.  I found my old microBR in the bottom drawer, in a pile of wood dust (wood beetle poop?), which I haven't touched in many years. I started to fool with it to see if I could remember how to work it. In the couple of hours I had free I started making a little demo song - just one verse. Put some 12-string acoustic (two tracks), then a doubled vocal (built in mic), then bounced those down to 2 tracks (MBR has only 4 tracks...), then added a bit of bass and muted electric guitar. Then mastered down to MP3. So this demo is just a little homage to the microBR. I found it stimulated some creative juices - it so small and easy to just sit on the couch with, rather than fussing with external mic plugged into audio interface plugged into computer. Maybe I should go back to using this tiny magic silver box!  My microBR burns batteries abnormally fast, always did for some reason, so I have limited time before a change - but this forces me to try to come up with song parts faster, which maybe isn't a bad thing...

I'm going to write down the chords here, so I don't forget them  ::)
A, E/A, F#m, D

It really does sound like you! And It's a good thing. Also the fact that you're working faster is probably a good thing.

BUT you should have just gone the whole hog. Done the song. I can hear the song coming out from you, but you're pushing it back. You just need to let it loose.

Or if you'll continue working like this... I'd recommend contacting the closest radio station and starting a fruitful career as the jingles man! I'm sure with your sunny pop sound you'd be able to help them sell anything. From laxatives to luxury cruises. You'd got them covered!

Doug, I think you could quit your day job but the thing is you gotta great gig there in Southern CA!  If you ever decide to move, we will be happy to have you right here in the Hickory, NC area.. it is rated as one of the best places to live in the US... and lots of music stuff happening..

the micro br I have some amazing pieces come from that here on SC... these little recorders are so impressive... I still use my old 16 track Boss unit... I would use it more but I have not come up with a good way yet to get the digital files off it anymore... the software don't like talking to new computers... so when I use it now I send the files analog over to my Zoom recorder...

yes... finish the song... when you can

Ha, that's really funny! Yeah, I should try to expand it... or maybe it would be good for a Viagra commercial? And a new lyric idea I had for the chorus "I'm gonna party all night"...

Regarding laxatives, some say a lyric in the famous Eagles song "Take it easy": "Running down the road, trying to loosen my load", is referring to a guy who needs laxatives. But can you tell me how would that fit with the next line: "I've got seven women on my mind"?

um, the blue pill idea works... and as far as loosening... if someone had/has 7 women, they defo need to loosen the load!

Pill, or no pill. When the laxatives hit there's probably very few women left...

Unfortunately as great as that lyric would be with that intention behind it... I think it's about a guy with blueballs after reading too many magazines (those seven women mentioned in the lyrics).

Before the mods ban me... I think it's time to conclude our Songcrafters special series part II on "How to Write Songs and Become Succesfull with Women".

Here is the expanded "jingle" revealing the "chorus"

(I have to try to forget about an ad for a pill, because if I think about that while listening, I can't stop laughing ;D)

The sun is shining, it's a beautiful day
and you always know just what to say
I'm feeling so good, feeling so right
I just can't wait till saturday night

What could be better than this?

I'm gonna party all night, party all night
Till the break of day
I'm gonna party all night, party all night
That's what I've got to say

There is no keyboard - it maybe sounds that way because of the 12-string acoustic - the high B and E strings each have two strings the same (same octave) and since they are slightly out of tune it gives a natural "chorus effect" type sound (while the other strings are normal + high octave).  By the way, I found a trick to make the 12 string easier to play. I put a capo on 2nd fret and then tune back down to E standard. So then its like having a shorter scale guitar, less finger stretch plus lower string tension!

Sounds great!

We should have a "Dust Off Your Micro BR Fest" – maybe a Mini Fest.
