A little piece of gold
Always slipping from your hands
And now the shifting sands
You starting to get old
Grasping for that little piece of gold.
A little piece of gold
Looking for that point of reference
Ride the punches; ride the malevolence
You know you're bought and sold
For that little piece of gold.
That little piece of gold
What exactly would you do
It's never up to you
Just do what you are told
For that little piece of gold.
Worked this time.
It certainly did a little piece of gold
Ray, I like how you start this out in the mellow lane and then gradually heavy it up as it moves into electric dark land and then back. Excellent vocals, story, piano and guitar! The fretless (?) bass sounds cool as it makes that lovely mwah sound. I enjoyed it all!
Great dynamics here Ray! I totally wasn't expecting the track to get to that heavy middle section like that. Great soloing and the structure of this song is fascinating and totally works. Great lyrics here too; pure poetry.
Masterful performance and song writing. Outstanding in every sense. Ultimate contrasting with that off the chart solo and style change! 8)
Hi Ray, what an awesome song. Epic. I love the slow, mellow overall feel of the song, but love the change in style when it gets heavier. A bit Floyd-esq. great playing songwriting and singing.
good song title, liked the sparse sections and the arrangment into the heavy part before it breakdowns with a the more sader section with the piano and vocal style, real nice track, very haunting that ending, enjoyed this Ray
Stunning job with different 'genres' in three minutes!! So enjoyable listening.
Great production. I was reading the comments as it was playing and saw 'heavy middle section', so wasn't quite as much of a surprise. It works realy well. I was hoping it might make a bit of a reprise at the end though :) .
The song is just that. Evocative. That grungy middle section with fiddly bits was an interesting addition.
Kinda makes me wonder whether you should just release the inner beast and go full on rock for a while? I mean there's been shades of harder edged music in your compositions before.
woah, man this is beyond expression good! I just bask in the goodness of it... and then that blistering guitar oh my goodness man... that is so wicked cool! I dig it! as great as you are Ray in all aspects... and everything is amazing... playing, production... your vocals top everything, pretty much every time... amazing
Nother fine piece by the troubadour himslef. The middle section hit me like a hammer. Shouldn't work but it does! Nice one Ray.

It's an underlooked thing I think sometimes in music. Why one band is 'great' and another is just 'good'. I think that is why Rory Gallagher is seen as a great of blues rock, but yet they don't often mention his vocals. I takes music another 10/20% to a better place.
Ray, another lovely piece. It is a lovely vocal with a spotlight shining on it - great reverb/echo? Great lyrics too. And yeah, letting rip in the middle... why not? Sounds great.

Beautiful, Ray. Love the changes in feel from acoustic guitar to heavy electric to an exquisite piano finish. Brilliant.
