Title: RIP Jimmy Buffett
Post by: Ted on September 05, 2023, 04:51:55 AM
Jimmy Buffett, 'Margaritaville' Singer, Is Dead at 76 - The New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/02/arts/jimmy-buffett-dead.html)

I wrote a blog post (https://half-heartedfanatic.com/2023/09/05/jimmy-buffett-can-kiss-my-ass-original-music/) about how Jimmy Buffet was kind of an unacknowledged influence in my life. I never thought about it until Mike_S noted (https://songcrafters.org/forum/index.php?msg=403954) that my song "Jimmy Buffett Can Kiss My Ass" popped up in the On This Day jukebox – on the day Buffett died.

Much like Tom Petty, it unfortunately took a death to make me appreciate somebody more. Living in Florida, you are bombarded by Buffett shirts, songs played in stores, and song requests. I watched a Youtube extended 60 minutes interview with him a few days ago, and sheesh, what a life. And once you get past "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and the like, some really good tunes as well.

The beach bum died just south of being a billionaire, by all accounts was a fun guy and a good person, and left behind a legion of Parrotheads.

John and I always play at least one new tune at our gigs, and we have agreed on "A Pirate Looks at Forty" for the next in October.

I am a bit sorry for not seeing him live as I sure the tailgates and shows were zoos.
