Probably shady at best :) And the difference between all of the AI generators are huge. Some are using sources that are almost recognizable and others are really out there.

From my understanding stable diffusion is not copying and pasting anything.

If AI is guilty for seeing 1000 shapes and noticing what makes them bird-like, then copyright law needs a rewrite to state that.

While I am sympathetic to artists, and writers, I do not think current law is ready to handle the AI wave.
